2001 LX470: I had a slight whine in the area of the PS pump. I also noticed that the fluid was low with the usual seeping and oil/dust on the outside of the lines. I refilled the fluid and the whine/squeal seemed to go away with a little lube around the pulley.
Fast forward two days (and about 50 miles of city driving) and it threw the belt as my wife was pulling into work. She said the steering felt fine up until she heard the belt go. It is still sitting in the parking lot at her work and I was planning on trying to diagnose/repair where it sits.
Can I assume that the pump is toast? Could it possibly be just the pulley, hence the belt getting shredded? I know to check the pulley to see if it will spin freely. If it won't, any tips on removing just the pulley/bearing?
Any suggestions or things to look for help. I'm gonna dive into it around lunch tomorrow.
