After several months of negotiating, BIL John purchased a 1985 FJ60 with 120xxx miles that he found hidden on a farm in the backwoods of Stanly County. Since purchasing he has had a new water pump installed, fluids changed, new wipers, new Weber carburetor installed and de-smogged. A former Concord Toyota mechanic opened a shop here in Albemarle and did the engine work.

Since it was sitting for years, I volunteered to clean it inside and out for him, with the stip that I drive it for a couple of days. This yota has been to URE in the past; I even found some old ONSC cards in the console with Greg listed as President. I've ordered the steering column cover from Acertryx but he wants me to get some new headlights for him. I saw Yeti found some for Brett's troupy and am wondering if they will work for an FJ60. Any recommendations would be appreciated. Also, the winch works but would like some input on what to do as far as unspooling and proper spooling to avoid the current bumper wrap. Should the cable be lubricated?

As you will see from the pics, this 60 would do fine in URE but I doubt he will ever take it there. He just wanted a different ride to haul his dog to the farm to run. Who knows, I might be able to get him to come hit the trails with us at Logan's Run.

Sooo, here's some pics!

Very cool 60. Looks really clean too!
That things had to have been on the trails.
F/R bumpers and the door kiss.............................. Drag him out; he will be hooked.

I can't remember if I saw that one for sale off 64 in Asheboro for a little while at a Pizza place... I put a card on one, just can't remember the color... maybe time to go through old pictures...

They will fit, give me a call

I would call you but I don't have a phone number for you!
I do have your :princess: cell number! ;)

Looking at the pics of Bretts troopy, it appears you purchased fog lights and I am looking for the round driving lights.

The PO lives in Charlotte but has a farm in Stanly County. I really don't know the history of this vehicle but it could have been in the Asheboro area years ago.

Can anyone give me some pointers or a link to the proper way to tighten the winch cable?

I usually hook it to a tree, and let it pull the vehicle to it.

Ding Ding Ding, we have a winner!!!! :D

Even a light standard in a parking lot works. You just need a little tension on the cable/rope and guide it on the spool with a GLOVED hand.

Thanks guys!

I thought about pulling out and holding while someone works the controls but didn't know if that would get it tight enough. And I wasn't sure if I wrapped it around a tree or something, you could guide it on the spool while pulling truck. Will give it a shot (if it ever quits raining) and let you know how it went!

Sometimes using a pry bar is easier to guide the taught cable than your gloved hand. If the cable has some nasty barbs, they can get you through the glove.

That 60 looks great Kenny! You should buy it!!

Good info there Johnny, thanks! Not sure about barbs on cable, but wouldn't be surprised. Plus, it might have some bends in cable where wrapped around ARB for who knows how long, which I hope will straighten out by using the truck to keep taut.

No offense, but :flipoff2: a 60, I prefer the 80!
But I would rather have a 40! ;)

Kenny just emailed you a bunch of info

Thanks Yeti!
