Balls! ? and front axle housings? (1 Viewer)

Building a hj75 troopy, very slowly with very little money. The front axle housing balls on the wreck looked exceptionally neglected and abused. So I picked up a used front axle housing on marketplace.
Are the random marks and crevices within the balls part of the casting?

These are the wreck's balls on the inside, chunks have been chewed up in there!

I have repaired slopped out spring bolt alignment holes in rear axle housing perches by welding cut up saddles with good holes on to the perches in the past. Loose 6mm or so in height but at least the spring bolt was aligned. The purest would probably weld on new perches.

So I wonder if I should do the same by cutting up some saddles and welding onto the perch? or can I fill the hole and re drill.? Welds are hard steel, so not easy to drill.
