I've hike the Ballentine Trail and followed a spur to an old abandoned cabin and corral. Really nice hike, but I also noticed there's a 4x4 trial to get there.

I'd like to take a youth group on a campout there, hike in, but also have a vehicle come in and meet us there to refill supplies, etc. I've been searching around and can't find any intel on the 4x4 trail section. Following it on Google Earth it appears pretty straight forward, starts of the 87 just before mile post 213...but it shows there's a locked gate (or could be locked) at the entrance.
Anyone familiar with this trail? Difficulty? Is it locked or available for access with a code with the Forest Service?
