Does anyone have expierence with Baja bugs or know anyone wanting to part ways with one or has an old bug that could be converted

There is one over here on James Island behind a house on Signal Point Rd. Its on a trailer with a half ripped tarp over it. I will ride by tomorrow and get an exact address tomorrow.

I'll try to see if I can. the only time I go by there able to take pics the shop is closed and its gone. It's at accurate car care in conway. I'll see if it is there sat on my way to get the trailer to pick up the engine for the 4runner.

Its at 970'ish on Dills Bluff Rd. I really couldnt read the mailbox, but its on a trailer with a ripped tarp covering it. The bug looks to be a project. There is alot of other "things" all around the yard.

That is why you need a winch to drag it Up the hill. Check out baja bug videos online there is some funny ones

IMO a '69 or Higher Standard Beetles whould make the best Baja. You have a true IRS rear vs the Swing Axle, and the torson front suspension will be a better performance offroad then the McPherson struts. See link : Standard Vs Super beetle for Baja SuperBeetles are not Super Bajas .

I've been tinkering with a Beetle project for a while, its evolved quite a bit since the begining. Currently have a 72 Super beetle pushing 190hp with a little over 200ft/lb torque... Need some fininshing touches to get it on the road.


Oh here is a pic on why a swing axle is probably not a good performance set-up (mainly the top pic imagine coming up over a hil scooting along). But The IRS Rear came out full time in 1969 and in 1968 on the Auto-Stick.

I drove a beetle and it was not 70's Woodstock type fun. I was really disappointed no power steering and difficult cluth and gear changes. Will put this down the list of good ideas for a while.
