I drive from NYC to Orlando and back every few weeks....

Anything less than 80mph and you're getting passed like you're standing still :o

I here that, use to live in Westchester now VA
95 is like a f'ing raceway
My 80 is big enough and armored enough that people stay way:D
Plus she dont handle 80+ to well with 5 inches of lift and 35's:cheers:

Looks like i'm on the right track. i will be doing both ds's. can anyone tell me how to go about determining which rear yoke I have? i looked up the parts and it shows 2 different styles.

yes the front and rear are 2 different u joint sizesall 80's have the same rear u joint size and the same front u joint size

I removed my ds with my wheels on the ground. Actually, they were on the ramp. I would imagine others probably prefer it with wheels off the ground to lessen tension on the joints.
I will probably install the new ujoints with wheels off the ground.

Are all the joints original?
If so I would replace them all for piece of mind
That is what I did way back when
And you can do the same with the rear shaft as you did with the front
You just keep the CDL locked and you can drive around with either front or rear wheel drive while each shaft gets repaired
You could pull apart the slipyoke and clean it out and regrease it and put it back together and then hit it with a grease gun after you put it back on the truck
If you put grease in it with a grease gun before you re install it it will be a real bitch to put back on because you will not be able to collapse it enough to get it on
Ask me how I know this
what type of grease is recommended for the slipyoke?

So I need to replace the rear u joint on my front drive shaft. That's going to be part # 04371-60070 right? I can't find it listed as a 97 land cruiser u joint, only for gx460s and 4 runners. But I think the same u joint is used on all these rigs.

Yeah the old part # was replaced with 04371-60070. In fact, I just bought 2 of these on eBay for $45ea shipped as mine were in bad shape.
