I just recently went to put my new plates on my FJ and noticed that the dealership had not only screwed directly into the plastic to mount the front plate frame, but also mounted it so that it rubbed on the paint and scratched through the paint in the shap of a plate frame. Make sure this isnt happening to your FJ. take a look at the lower side of the front license plate frame where it contact the front bumper.

Too late. Mine's the same.

well i installed the plates myself to avoid that type of thing, and i can tell you the truck comes with a few small strips of adhesiev backing to provide a cusion for the plate to mount to, perhaps your dealer is hoarding them?

You could always do away with the tupperware and get a real bumper.:D

It was just the principle of the thing. My three week old bumper has no paint on it in the shape of a license plate frame, I was a little bummed. My next purchase is a bumper.

I don't care much for the bumper. If you plan on takin it off road i'm sure you'll get it a lot more scratched up. I did- the first time out. The stock bumper sticks out too far. Plus it's just plastic.

Mine was installed the same way... and has a rub mark on the bumper... but I'm not too worried about it...

1. Not metal = no rust
2. Offroad = scratches anyways
3. It's a 4x4 = no big deal (for me)

But, YES, it should be done BETTER by Toyota. I may pick up a plate frame from an auto store someday soon.

I discovered them hidden in the glovebox... Mine too has the plate scratches... Oh well:rolleyes:

Mine came with KIA adhesive strips...

As many are aware, a little baggie contains the bandaids for the plate- and a couple hooks to keep the floor mats in place. Since my dealership also sells KIA's fine products- I am convinced this came from the other side of the Sea of Japan! For your pleasure- here are the as-quoted instructions included within my baggie:

1) A bag into the glove box is taken out.
2) A rubber sheet is taken out from the bag.
3) A rubber sheet is apply on the reverse face of the license plate.
4) License plate is installed on bumper.

Since many threads omit the Toyota P/N- only to have someone research it later- I'll dip in early and provide this:

52541-35030

My strips are available (MIP)! My stock bumper came off when my rig had 9 miles on it- and my dealer plates came off before my wife drove up the driveway from the dealership! It's all replaced by All-Pro Offroad's fine unit! Hope it helps!
