So my wife had been having issues turning the lock on the ignition.
Insert key to start car and the key cylinder would not turn.
This has happened intermittently for about a year.
I have tried dry lubricants(graphite), new keys etc. They would only work temporarily.
Finally went to dealership and they were going to charge us $750 to rekey the whole car.
In actuality did not seem to bad because I think they were going to give us a new key.
Finally thought I would try a locksmith, talked a to a few. Found one that was like, " I can do it make it better than new. $50." ... Done.
Popped out ignition cylinder drove it up to his place, done in an hour.
Apparently the wafers wear out and get stuck together over time.
They put in new wafers and you are good to go. It has been a month or so and everything is working perfectly.
Now I just have to pull out the other cylinder in the car and have those re - wafered.
