I know it sounds strange but the only think holding me back from getting a HZJ77 is the fact that it has a bench back seat. My KZJ78 has the split type back seat and I really need to have ability to fold half of the seat up. Does anyone know if the mounts and hinges are the same for both vehicles?

I had a look through the part numbers for the lock assemblies that hold the rear seats down and they vary quite a bit.
But it still may work
Im not sure if you get the VDJ76 ,but they may be the same also and the older HZJ76

Being in Japan you have a better oppotunity than most of us to compare each model close up.

Thank you Roscoe, I found a few pics of the of the HZJ77 lock assemblies and indeed they are very different and looks as though I'd have to do some drilling for the extra two inner locks on the Prado 78 seats. And that's even assuming the outer locks fit...hmm..

There are no VDJ76 models here and it looks like the back seat is a bench as well. I don't think I've ever seen an KZJ76 or maybe I've mistaken them for a 78.

If you need me to pull up my carpet to see if there are attachments I will.
The bolt holes are in the roof are just behind the headliner as I have felt for them.

Thanks ForealBoreal, The fellow selling the car is doing some research for me as well so I'll just wait a bit to see what he comes up with.

Cheers,

Chris

Thats a HZJ76 similar to a HZJ77 but one is leaf sprung all round and the other is coil up front.
Which is which escapes me

Would be the 76 is coils wouldn't it? The vdj76 is coils obviously and the hzj76 that is sold in other markets is the same body and chassis. I've never figured out how they do their model number sequencing

I've been trying to source some 78 seats for my 77. Am I sure they will bolt in nicely with no drilling or anything at all? Nope. Am I sure they can be made to fit seeing how a 78 and a 77 tub from the A pillar back is the same. Absolutely I'm confident I can make them fit.

There was also one sold in Japan with the old style body. Here is a 2000 model for auction in JP ,so they must be coil sprung fronts.

Yes the sequencing is all over the place.
Much of it comes from 7* series having about 22 models with many sharing a series number.
