Back door upper hatch outside handle (1 Viewer)

I broke my upper hatch door mechanism on a recent trip. By removing the inside panel and seeing what happened, it looks like there is a yellow plastic piece that sits atop the metal “plug” on the linkage rod between the handle and the door lock mechanism. You can see in the first pic that this yellow plastic piece appears to be broken, assuming it should fully surrround the metal post and clip into the ring above it on the lock assembly. It I clip it back in, it just falls back out when I pull the door handle.

A new handle assembly (69090-60010) (second pic) doesn’t come with this yellow plastic clip but I can’t seem to find it as it’s own part. Anyone been through this and know how to get that yellow plastic clip?

The second pic shows a new part with the “plug” but not the plastic clip piece.

There is a link buried somewhere on mud for a bag of 10 of those. Others have gotten them from a local auto body shop. Take the old one with and match it.
Can't be bought, as far as I know, from Toyota.
Your not the first to have that break.
I have 9 in a bag but wint be home for weeks.

Toyota services it by selling the whole latch assembly, dumb. We get them from a local auto body supply store, take the broken one and match it up.

Thanks. But even the latch assembly doesn't include that part. Not sure which one would. I'll see what i can find.

You can still get the yellow door handle retaining clip by itself. I've replaced the door handle assembly and the yellow clip on mine. The yellow clip should be $2 or less so I bought two and taped one to the inside so I'll have a spare if it wears out again.

Oh yeah, that looks better and would definitely make a difference. The ones I am trying, that other members had pointed links to on here (Amazon product ASIN B0040D0L02) , I had to resort to snipping off the top plastic part or the bottom plastic part just to get it to fit into the hole. It's not staying put though when I open from the outside! Is it possible to order one of those from the dealer or do I have to get a 20 pack like you did?

Also, you'll notice both Amazon links (yours and mine) have the same part number but they are NOT the same style clip. Or are they???? It is so hard to tell.
