Do you plan on running ag tires on the highway, at highway speeds? Good luck, I can barely stand to drive a tractor because they are so unbalanced and anti highway. Save some money and 1ton it... If you find the right old guy with an old farm truck you can easily find them for the price of the locker. Weld them up and forget about it.

EDIT= Im part purist, but I can only imagine the pain those 4cyl axles are going through. You could market the rear axle and pay for one of the 1tons. Part out the front end and call it done money wise.
hahahaha no for sure i will not be running the ag tires on highway that would be like shooting your self in the foot. when i go ahead and do the the sas i will most likely swap the back axle too but i dont want to 1 ton it because of money wise. but i will have to see wat comes my way. and it wasnt a 4 cyl. it started as a v6

Regardless, If you have any fab skills and a welder/grinder, one tons will cost the same if not less than finding a built mini axle to handle the power. Birf's are meant to handle no more than a 33" tire.

Youll might have to adapt to the driveshaft to the other axle, regardless youll have to extend/remake the front driveshaft.

If you look used you can find 1ton highsteer arms cheap (we paid 60bucks local), Youll be looking at the same exact general suspension cost. Axle is most likely cheaper, as is the locker. People have been building D60s and 14bolts on a larger scale than toyota axles.
 
i get wat ur saying but with out a job and still in school it makes it kinda hard to do this kinda stuff. the hardest part about this is finding the parts. living on the eastern shore makes it kinda hard to find parts not very many people part out a broken truck they just let it sit in their front yard for 10 years. if i could find something for a good price i would take it but that kinda doesnt happen and when it does they are in bad shape

ok i was able to find a guy who is selling a dana 44 and a 12 bolt rear and 3.73 gearing would this be worth my money?

The D44 can be upgraded. Im not familiar with 12bolt, other than they are pretty common but strength wise I am unsure.

But going with those two would require upgrading the axle.

I found a dogdge D60/D70 combo for 100 bucks. Both axles are driveable, the truck was parked because of noise in the rear end. It had been driven with soupy water for lube for most its like by the looks of it.

We run a open 10bolt (D44 equivalent) in our Heep Scrambler and its pushed by a stroked AMC 360. Its seen alot of abuse and its worked fine. We paid 500 bucks for a running Chevy 2500. used the transfer case and axles, built the 350 for another truck and have a spare tranny lying around. We could have parted out the truck for alot more than we paid. Id look around for an older (later 70's-later80's) 1ton that has seen alot of rust. Offer a lowball price and see where it goes.
 
ok i need to see wat kinda of axles are run in a 1972 chevy 3/4 ton pickup cuz i know a guy who has one with out a motor and i might use the transfer case too depending on the price of it
 
It will either be a D44 or 10Bolt Front end and a 14Bolt or D60 rear end. Most likely the 14Bolt is a full floating, although they offered a semi floating in the "Heavy Halfton's". There are many good threads on I.d.'ing a 14bolt in the HardCore Section and a google search will bring some good links as well.
 
do either of u guys have any problems when u give it a lil gas when going around a corner? my main concern is that on my way to school there is this long right handed turn and i dont know what the locker would do in that situation
 
I have to make a U turn every day when I take my lunch break at work and head home. Never had a problem making U turns on the highway. Also never had a issue on long sweeping turns. Just make sure you are gentle on the gas, don't stab it in a turn :)
 
My only issue is when I let of the throttle, and then you can just feel it disengage. Ive scared my self once with an autolocker. It was in a k-5 blazer. Stuck throttle and wet road. Wound up in the ditch, but it wasnt the autolockers fault.
