has anyone ever swapped chevy 1/2 ton axles into a landcruiser. i was thinking about swapping to an auto and maybe an np205 which if i did that i know i would need a different rear due to the off set of the toyota axle.

sure, it's been done many times but you're not gaining any strength. you will gain some width and a centered rear axle which allows for more transmission and t-case choices. you'll also end up with a very "square' wheelbase and tires that stick way out. so you'll have to rig up mudflaps and outboard the springs in order to be able to hand the wider axles ( with wider spring perches ) under the cruiser chassis.
in the long run, it's cheaper just to get an adapter to mate the stock t-case to whatever engine/trans combo you'd want to run in the cruiser. the stock axles are very sturdy and there are plenty of upgraded parts available.

yup! drive it, wheel it, enjoy it and then build according to your needs and what you expect the vehicle to do for you. :)
