So...most of you know that Im neck deep in the 4 runner mess.
Long story short...
I checked the valve lash and they FAWKED for the most part.
This particular motor uses shims to adjust the valve lash and of course, they are a dealer ONLY part.
So I go down to Reno Toyota and talk with the parts guy (who is getting to know me by now) and he can not really help with the sizing.
I ask to see the service manager (Dana) who is in conference with the lead tech Greg. I tell them my situation and they point out a glaring problem with THEM being able to help me get the size shims that Ill need. Most of the tolerances are too tight...essentially ZERO, but could possibly be MORE.
So Greg and Dana agree to let me borrow the thinnest shims and get a good base line spec on the valves. SOOOOPER COOL!
I go home re do the sizing and come back with all the numbers based off what I have.
Greg comes out, I show him the numbers which are basically GREEK to me and says "follow me". He takes me back in the shop and shows me essentially how he figures the most apporx. shim sizes. He then goes diggin through some of his shim boxes and gives me all the shims that I need and says if you need any more help...lemme know.

Everyone there that I had dealt with today was just AWESOME. The parts guy (older dude with a beard), the service guy in the glass booth...That guy Greg went WAAAAAY out of his way to help me out and hook me up on this deal and Im SOOOOO grateful. He totally did NOT have to do it at all, and nor did I expect it either.

Just wanted to share this awesome experience with you all!

Great customer service and has been for a while now, but today was just beyond!

Awesome.

I was going to chime in that I know a guy that used to have a whole bucket full of those shims, but you got it handled.

He probably threw them away after the last 3.slow he did anyway. I think he said something like....50 dollars of vacuum hoses for a 10 cent motor.

I still need a THICKER size one...
Probably in the 3.0 variety. If I dont HAVE to bug greg again, Id like NOT to.
The last size and the largest size I had was a 2.7...which was some how WORSE than the 2.6? So the spec calls for a MAX or .32...Im at .53 with the 2.7 shim!!!!:bang::crybaby::bang::crybaby::bang:
I unfortunately do not know how the numbers convert.
