Average miles on 80 tranny before rebuild?

I have 97 with 101,000 miles (bought with 92,000). This winter, I knew I was in some kind of trouble when I had to wait 5 seconds or so for the rig to move when placed into "D." However, I only had this problem when outside temps dipped below freezing.

In spite of the warnings posted on this site, I had the tranny "power flushed."

Two weeks later....no problems. The tranny is like new. This is a big suprise to the onwer of the "flusher!" He said my Cruiser plugged up his machine 3 times before he was able to get a normal flow or result.

Living mile by mile at this point.

I'll use a landtank line and say: we'll let you know when the first one's wear out!

My '97 has 225K+ miles on it with no major work to the tranny or engine. Used it tow boat / car trailer for several years until I got a diesel.

Wife still drives the 80 everyday. Suspect it will be handed down to my 16 year old for her first car. After she trashes it, it will become my next trail truck.:D

I was thinking the same thing about handing down my 92 80 to my son someday. (He is now 12)
Just not sure he would be able to afford the gas in 4 years.....

WOW!! You're a better man that me! I'm thinking two seater only but maybe for safty reasons I'll give my little one an 80 as her first car.. Now I have 6 years to think of a good reason to tell her the back seats are out of it and she needs to keep a fridge or something big back there!
