Ok, I have tried everything I know to do to upload an avatar but nothing works. I even paid for a year subscription because I thought it would increase the avatar file size limitation.

I know other people have larger avatars because I can download them and see file size.

What gives?

mmm....5k has been the limit for over a year, it was only pretty early in the "forum life" that it was a larger size.

5k is very common across a lot of forums, so I stuck with it.

I've had some trouble with it. I thought you must have decreased the file size. A couple of months ago I could resize almost any of my pics and use them for an avatar. Now I can't get any of them to fit until they are to small to make out anyway. The one I have now was the only thing I could shrink and still see. If it's been 5k for over a year then I musta bumped my head.

Help???

How can anyone have an avatar in color under 5k?
I am at a loss. I have tried jpeg, gif, bmp, and even reduced to 50ppi which makes the avatar microscopic. What am I missing???

How?
How do I put images in email through the forum?

Holy labor intensive. Do I have to have a URL for every image I post?

have you tried uploading attachments yet? LOTS of info on that with the IrFanView sticki here in the Help section.

Intended Avatar

There is something I am missing. I use photoshop for editing and sizing my graphics and images. Jpeg is a lossy compression yet when I save as a jpeg it is always too large to post. I have tried this with the avatar limitations(100x100 72ppi) and I cannot get the image below limits without it looking like butt. I just tried this with another image as an attachment to a post and even at 600x400 72ppi it was too large.

Where is the tree .....Im in the forest.

I don't own photoshop, so this is all a guess...

PSP offers a few options for resizing....72 Dpi (not ppi, no clue if there is a diff) is irrevelant....the image needs to be 800 dpi x 600 dpi max, and compressed about 20% to get below the 90k max. PSP allows for a handful of resize options (I use "smart size").

this one started as a 2048 x 1536 pixel image and 973k....resized to 60% and then cropped down to 800x600 - at 20% compression, it's just within the limits. (took this pic about 11a today)
