Let talk about lights! Yes, Yes, I did a search, not much info came up. I’m looking for the best bang for my buck. I have a 97 LX-450 with an ARB bumper. 4 wheel parts email me on a sale that their having on some pro comp lights. I fond some people here running the 8” 130 from pro comp. So my question is: Is it worth it for me to purchase a pro comp lighting set up? Or should I go with another brand? I don’t want to put a hole lot of money into Aux lights up front do to the fact that A: some one will most likely steal them. B: I will break them off-road.

Any comments would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you

you didn't catch the sticky at the top of this forum?

:D

I have, and love, my Lightforces. I have 240s on mine and 170s that will be installed on the wife's 80. Personally, I wouldn't bother with much else if you want some seriously bright lights.

Here's a shot of mine with the Lightforces

I used a 2 wire trailer harness as a "quick disconnect" for the wires, if I need to remove the lights for any reason.

I have some lightforce 240's as well, bu tthey probably dont fit into the "I dont want to spend much $" quote.

I wouldnt go withthe pro-comp, I would personally pick up a set of used lights on Ebay or on another forum (pirate, here, local forum, etc.)
You can save tons of $ by doing this. I know I sure have!

Thanks Doug for the input! Yes, I did see the sticky. Not much info on pro comp lighting. It mostly looked like inside lighting and under frame light. Maybe i missed some link or something? I started a new thread to see what kind of comments i would about pro comp lighting set up.
Thank you

I too like the LightForce set up. Yes it is a little pricy. I just fear that if i put some BIG $$$ lights up front, it will be my luck that some bone head will steal them.

I have lightforce 240's as well and my dad's 97 has hella 4000's both are very nice and we are both very happy with them.

I know where you are coming from ....... but unfortunetly, "inexspensive" and "good" lighting does not go hand and hand:frown:

I know that some lights have some locking nuts that you need a "key" to turn, they might be enough to waive off the common criminal. Check these out;

I was working off my poor memory at the time. I recalled seeing lights on a bumper. Sorry if I came off sounding a bit terse.

I've seen the pro comp light ads. I don't know much about those lights. As already said...cheap lights typically do not mean good lights. What's your goal? Bumper bling? Lighting up the woods? A little extra candlepower for those really dark nights?

Well I was in hopes to light the woods up and make some more light on the really dark nights. I have been eyeballing the IPF's 900xsd from slee but still $300 i feel is a little high for me. but i do like the fact that you may be able to buy lock nuts for the mounts. 4 wheel parts deal is hard to beat.

nexusd,
I have the LF 170's and they are BRIGHT. I've seen Doug's 240's in action and they are UBER BRIGHT
I think they use the same bulb but the 240's have the massive reflectors.
I am very happy w/ the 170's and the focus-ability of them too

I would go with a 100w or higher. I had some 55w (which were graciously gifted to me) and they did add a bit of fill but overpowered by the high-beams.

Have you seen the lights for sale in the classifieds here? Also now on ebay?

hint...hint...

Also, can't go wrong with Hella 4000s.

i got the hella 500 and am happy with them i liked my hella black magic lights better but 50 bucks vs 200 won over

Hella has a new light out, the Hella 4000 Compact. It is a bit smaller than the larger 4000s, meaning it would fit on the ARB without issue. The only drawback I see is they don't have covers available yet. $199 for a set from Summit Racing. That's what I am going with.

Take a look at Warn lights. They have a fair selection and the price for the lower end is usally around $150-$200 a pair. I run the 612's (6") in the long range beam and they still throw alot of light out wide. You can see how they look on my bull bar: https://forum.ih8mud.com/showthread.php?t=89514

I'll probably buy the 522's and use the upper bar mounts. These lights are 5", flood pattern and shouldn't look to bad sticking above the hood since they are smaller.

Pro Comp lights are cheap and seem to work ok. I have them on my the headach rack of my mini and the only time I liked them was the day I put them on. The way they mount just plain sucks, they are hard to aim and adjust. Also if you need to un bolt them and remount them, they will never hold tight. Then if you get the black finish, as I did, it will fade fast and rust.

You could also take a look at KC, they are about the same price of the Warn lights but looks like they mount like the Pro Comps. IMO the Warns win.

Bear80 Thats the info i was looking for!! Thank you very much. I'm looking into ebay and the new Hella smaller 4000's.

I wanted to give an up date. I went and bought the IPF 968's $127 w/shipping for the pair. They should be at my door step in a few days. I bought them from a jeep vendor www.dpgoffroad.com. Yes, i know it's a jeep thing. The guys at the shop were pretty cool and very helpfull. The lights come with two sets of bulbs a 55w and a 110w. I will have more info. once I install them.
Thanks for the help

I was about to order some Hella 4000s but looked at KC on ebay....9 inch metal lights with100/130 watt bulbs for cheap....real cheap. Something must be wrong with them....anyone know what?

Australian 4WD had by far the best driving light comparison I have seen and I just found a great pdf link. Not all the brands are available in the US, but this will give you an unbiased view and most importantly will show you the different beam patterns.

I've head about and wanted to read that article! THANKS!!

Almost worthy to be considered as a part of the (aux.) lighting FAQ. ;)
