Apparently, the dealership can set your car to automatically lock the doors once you begin travel - then unlock them once P is selected.

Can this be done without a trip to the dealership?

Are there any other neat tricks ?

Thanks,
Sword

ps - didi a search in this forum for "lock*" in the subject but only came up with questions -and no answers ...

Ya know, I was trying to turn this off last night. Mine locks the doors when shifted from P - factory default setting, I think.

I used the instructions in the manual, and just COULDN'T FIGURE IT OUT!

I'm sure I'm the problem, and it seems so simple, but it wouldn't do it. Maybe there's another parameter I'm not doing right.

Do the doors have to be locked or unlocked when programming?

Has anyone successfully done this? I'm trying to get the doors NOT to lock when I switch from P.

Here is a quick quote from my post last year. I had the exact same problem. Finally figured it out.

"Okay, first thanks for the quick help...I got it to work. Maybe I didn't take the directions literally like they are written, but you're supposed to let GO of the door lock after 5 seconds. I was just holding the door lock down, waiting for them to lock then unlock, signaling that the mode took.

Anyway, held the door lock for the count of 5, let go, then they locked and unlocked...ahhhh life is back to being easy again. Thanks for the help guys and errr gals."

I suppose you need the directions on how to do it too....oops

Put the parking brake on,
Turn the key to the ON position, put it in P (assuming they mean PARK)
Then to N (assuming they mean neutral)
Hold the back of the door lock on the driver's side (assuming they mean the Door lock switch on the driver's side door)...
All within 10 seconds of turning the key to the ON position.

This is gonna sound nuts, but it worked, THIS TIME.

I did it exactly the same way as last night, but the only difference was that the lights were on - Auto, in my garage. That shouldn't make a difference.

I even turned it back on, and off, to test it for the sake of science - I didn't think I'd get it back off again.

I did monkey with it a bit - tried it when the key was on ACC, shifted to N and back to P, but when I finally got it, it was exactly like the instructions say.

I can confirm the 5 second advice.

First go around I could not get it to work.

The key is the 5 second depress of the door lock button. Too long or too short a depress and it won't register the code.

The lock/unlock cycle is the confirmation it took.
