Hello, after a little internet search I have found your forum, I am a keen Toyota owner and have a restored FQ15. I have been offered by a local farmer a unmolested working FJ 28 soft top. Nearly all complete and original. Will need to be pulled down and a general mechanical overhaul undertaken with a body tidy up. Need an idea of what these vehicles are selling for as found and fully restored?

FJ28's came in a softtop? Do you have any pics? The more the better.

Sorry on the pictures

Hi to protect the owners privacy I wont post pictures of the FJ28 at present, I am keen to understand the value of these vehicles to ensure a fair value is there any recent market values that people can advise me of?

Attached is a photo of my Toyota FQ15

g'day there old twucks; i am loving that FQ15. would love to know some more about that. there is a lot of fantastic information here in this section; definately the place to do some research.

i bought my unrestored fj25 trayback nearly 2 years ago. there are some pictures of it in a thread called "technology reaches westralia" somewhere on the second page. (not to be confused with the fj25 wreck and 64 fj45 trayback pictured early in the thread) i paid 3,800 for that which i would say was top dollar. however i was a motivated buyer specifically looking for an unrestored unmolested aussie fj25 trayback. existing patina and mechanical tinkering is my thing; i am not interested in paint and polish at all so i grabbed this one while available.

the "count the fj25" thread at the top of this page is basically a registery of all that is known out there. scroll through those; there are a lot of aussie ones out there particularly towards the back of the list. #62 on the list is another fj25 tray that sold on ebay about 4 years ago for 1,500. i believe this was a good buy; it would have suited my particular tastes perfectly. #133 is another ebay fj28; someone may know what it went for and #145 has just been aquired by a mud member.

hope this helps

Thanks for info on the value of FJ28

Thanks for the info, below are a couple more photos of my FQ15 in Western Australia in 2005. In one photo there is a second FQ15 that lives in the west, when we checked chassis numbers they were sequential 1 number apart.

splendid. i want one! that middle picture shows exactly the semi arid part of the state i come from about 600km north of perth and 400km from the coast. i have a couple of old military relics to look at if you ever over this way again.

you restore that FQ? what do you know of its history? one reference i have tells me thiess imported a few in 1967. i understand there was an FQ15 and also a 2FQ15. what year would you put yours at? how many still exist?

and further to fj25/28 value there are many components that are unique to that model that often go astray. original rims are a big one. also both master cylinders. early horns are different also. and the front bumper, diffs, brake assemblies....etc. im still learning all this. usually a later component can be easily made to fit but it all depends on your definition of unmolested. the factory tool rolls are very collectable and a big bonus. fj25 jack is unique for the obsessed.

any old car i source now i ask the previous owner if they have any old photos of the vehicle that i would be able to copy. my 25 owner didnt have photos unfortunately but he typed me a page of anecdotes, when where he bought it, how he used it, coupla stories, and photocopy of his original reciept etc. these touches add to the value for me. any vehicles we enthusiests preserve now will outlive all of us and its nice to keep their stories intact.

Hi oldtwuks welcome to mud. We need to find more Aussie Toyotas and members.Any questions just ask there is a lot of knowledge on this site.Cheers Fred

Hello Oldtwucks. :)

I just did a quick search because I wanted to know a little about FQ15's and I came across this thread here on IH8MUD that you may find interesting:

On the value of you prospective FJ28 I could only compare it to early FJ40s and 45s. I watch eBay pretty religiously and an early 60s unmolested original condition 40series will fetch somewhere between $1200 and $3000. I would expect to pay a little more for an FJ28 in the same condition because it is that much rarer.

Fully restored price I have no clue. Maybe 10k+ for an FJ and double that for a BJ for some reason, (people get rocks in their heads over diesels:rolleyes:). You would get bigger bucks for one in the US compared to Australia that I do know.

Post up some pics please if you buy the 28. Lup :)
