I recently purchased this 1986 Toyota 4Runner with a Mercedes Benz OM617 turbo diesel engine swap performed by the previous owner. I have decided I have too many open projects and would like to dedicate time/funds to another Land Cruiser.

The 4Runner has a W56 5-speed transmission and 4x4Labs engine adapter plate to mate the Toyota W56 transmission to the Mercedes OM617 engine. It has stock Toyota 4.10 open diff gears. It utilizes the Mercedes OM617 radiator and mechanical fan and stays nice and cool. The charging system is a GM 1-wire alternator with Ford manual glow plug relay. Vacuum solenoid shut-down tied into brake booster. It has roll-on sound deadening and jute mat installation for heat/sound dampening. It has front ball joint spacers and OME rear lift springs with Bilsteins all around. The truck runs and drives well and will do 65 mph on the highway. The OM617 engine is awesome and will run forever.

When I bought the truck, there were several items that needed immediate attention, that I have addressed:
  • New CV front axles;
  • New front brakes (discs and pads);
  • New battery, battery mount, and proper heavy duty charge wiring;
  • Delete "Zuk" helper coil spring in the rear and install proper OME "medium" leaf springs;
  • All Bilstein shocks;
  • Doomsday Diesel ALDA delete for better throttle response.

The truck has 345k miles on the chassis and 170k miles on the engine.

Items that need to be addressed:
  • The truck has a small oil leak at the rear of the engine common to the OM617 motors;
  • It needs an alignment;
  • Center console rear window switch needs replacement;
  • Wire reverse lights;
  • Rear axle seals;
  • No Air Conditioning
  • Heater core is connected but heater control valve needs attention;
  • It needs a new brake master cylinder.
Finally, since I so recently purchased the truck, I am in the process of transferring title into my name. Travis County title office is backed up due to Covid. I had my title transfer appointment in December, but have not yet received the updated title (in my name) in the mail.

Asking price is $6,500 but willing to aggressively negotiate for a serious cash-buyer Mud member who comes to look at the truck in-person.
