Hey guy's,
Goldchaser here,if anyone is interested in importing early hj60's with the 5speed box from 1983 which is legal to import to the usa give me a yell,i can chase down rust free clean ones over here im sure of,some are dam cheap,i can arrange shipping from this end also, with the aussie dollar down on value its not a bad option,if anyone wants to talk more just pm me.

cheers goldchaser

Yes, I'm interested. Could it be shipped to Seattle? What's ballpark total cost for something like that?

What kind of engines came in those ?? a 3b or 1hz (sorry my years for diesel lc's is bad) and i'm guessing it is a h55f for the tranny???

How much do these normally run??

Thanks for the interest guys.
Im on the east coast,victoria.
A bit of a run down on myself,i have an awsome wife and a 11 yr old son, last few yrs ive been restoring a couple of old houses, just finished the last one lately and now i have a bit of time on my hands(i work three days a week) im looking for something else to keep the blood flowing,im not one to stand still for very long, prior to restoring houses i had my own bussiness with my wife for ten years,we sold that 6-7 yrs ago.So you would not be dealing with an idiot(well i don't think so anyway:)).
Ive seen a few nice 60 series cruzas on ebay USA for pretty high sums, right hand drive diesels, there is one on there at the moment for 25g buy it now,i think i could find one like that over here and get it to the west coast for around half or less then what there asking.
Depending on what your looking for a rough ball park figure would be @ $10.000us to the west coast, that should include everything, and all depending on the car it could be 2g less or maybe 2g higher,i'll know alot more the next few days as im waiting on some shipping quotes, and there is a few other details i have to check out as well.
The more desirable hj60's will be the 83 models as they have the 5sp box from then on,if you don't mind a 4sp box then maybe later dropping a 5sp in then we have a larger segment to look at,i'd expect to pick up early 4sp models cheaper again so could be a good option also.
There are lots of hj60's around down here but when we narrow it down to 83 preferrably and maybe the odd 80,81 or 82 and then good clean RUST FREE examples well the market shrinks rapidly, but they are around, and no probs i can find them.
Im not interested in buying and selling cars i'd like to act as a kind of agent,i will find, inspect, and organize everything from this end,so if i happen on a mint hj60 for $2000 aus thats what you'll pay,i will be negiotiating the best price on the car also,of course if i have to travel across the country to pick up a car there will be extra expenses.I'll be charging enough in my fees that i will never have to throw any on top of anything else.
Everything will be documented and receipts from all parties will be supplied.
I will only be supplying good rust free examples,if you want a s*** box look elsewhere!
Not dealing in parts, only running vehicles.
Another option for anyone considering a diesel conversion is if i come across any early hj60's that are rusted but might have say a good turboed 2h and drivetrain well we might be able to get them pretty cheap, makes a conversion a whole lot easier if you have a complete hj60 sitting in the shed.

send me a pm if you want to talk some more

cheers goldchaser

If its an 84 it could even have a build date of late 83 if your lucky, thats a diesel hilux im guessing, its going to be another week or so until i have some firm info from the USA regarding legalities etc,you may need a registered importer to handle the deal your end so things run smooth,im checking into it,will know more soon.
No shortage of diesel hiluxs down here.

Well, actually, its an 85 'cause I wanted to find a sample pic in a hurry. ;)

But, yes, the idea would be a diesel 4dr 4x4 hilux (US didn't get the turbo (2L-T) until 85. Same for Oz?) w/ AC.

Full US regs are here, but here's the official gist:

Under 49 U.S.C. § 30112(a), a person may not permanently import into the United States a motor
vehicle manufactured after the date that an applicable Federal motor vehicle safety standard (FMVSS)
takes effect unless the vehicle complies with the standard and is so certified by its original
manufacturer. This prohibition applies to both new and used motor vehicles, but does not apply to
motor vehicles that are at least 25 years old (based on the date that the vehicle was manufactured).
Whee!:D

I wouldn't mind having one of those either! In fact, I think I'd rather have one of those than the HJ60. Are either model difficult to turbo??? What are the pros/cons of an aftermarket turbo?

So, if I have this straight, it's legal to import a vehicle manufactured 25 years ago, correct? We're so close now, any benefits to waiting another year or two for a 1984 or 1985 mfg date? The only thing I can think of is that I'd want a turbo diesel motor in the vehicle. I honestly would be more interested in a hilux, it would be way more useable for me.

Yeah it's 25 years. In a few years when I am completely done with my masters i'm going this route. I think a diesel hilux and a diesel D90 from the UK (since they are dirt cheap there) would do me fine. I'll still have my 80 series though.

How about a Hi-Lux Double Cab and bed ?

Just cab and bed, I have everything else.
