Next workday is coming up here soon. It should be a relaxing workday and just travel the trails and pick up garbage from the dispersed camping spots on the trails. Were really bad the other day up there when i was on the bike checking things out.

Please try to come out and help any way you can.

Never know. FOU might hand out a range pass or 2. Just do not tell Robin as it is not FOU funds. Talked to the USFS about helping with that also now though.

I'm not working!! Should be able to make it, pending Tim's truck progress.

Anyone up for sending some lead downrange after the workday?

As of my chat with Terry today there are a few things that might get done this workday.

Reblock off Kodak on the upper side.
Put up some guard rail on Dickey bell
And last pick up garbage on the trails camping sites.

I will be up there this coming Tuesday with her on the trails to measure out some stuff. Might bring the bike up again.

Here is the official word from the USFS.

Hi Everyone – I know it’s been a long time since I’ve emailed you all and have been able to work with you on the workdays. Sorry about that. For this upcoming work day, Saturday, August 16th Jeff Greene will meet you at 9 am at the Uwharrie Hunt Camp. The main projects will be installing guardrail on Dickey Bell Trail. There are some sites we didn’t get done earlier in the year and then there are a couple of new sites where new illegal bypasses have been created. The other project will be to pick up trash at the OHV Trailheads and at the primitive campsites on the trails (the ones not being used on Saturday) and taking the trash out to the dumpsters at Group Camp.

There are 19 short rails & 13 posts at the Arrowhead Sprayfield and I think CTB with Jason Watson will be volunteering this Saturday and if there are others we’d like to get a good size group of rigs that can drag the guardrail and haul the posts up the Dickey Bell Trail. If we could have at least 10 folks working on the guardrail that would be good. I’ll be taking Darin out tomorrow and flagging and marking the sites and he’s planning on working with the guardrail group on Saturday and can organize that work.

In September and October we’ll be doing some reseeding and mulching and planting on sites behind the guardrails to start doing some actual restoration work along the trails. The September work day is on the 20th. I’ll be measuring some areas tomorrow with Darin to begin figuring out how much seed and mulch we’ll need and what kind of plantings could work out there. I’ll have things lined up with seed and mulch and guardrail for areas that have not been blocked off before. I’m sure there will still be more illegal bypasses that need to be blocked off. I’ll have either Rodney or Jeff working with you because I’ll be at parents weekend at my daughter’s college that weekend.

In October we’re moving the work day to October 25th so it’s not on the same day as the Uwharrie Jamboree. I think CTB will be working with George to place more rock on Daniel Trail. We did deliver more rock to Cotton Place TH this past weekend as we found a pile of it at our work center not being used. We’ll have more seed, mulch and plantings do to some restoration of the blocked illegal bypasses. I’ll get more sites measured and flagged for that weekend too. I’ll be working with you all on this work day.

Thanks a lot everyone. Bye - Terry

My family's coming to visit - I'll have to miss this one, and take a weekend off Dozer progress :(

I should be there with Andrea in the Jetta so we may just do the garbage pick up. I have to go by Kenny's afterwards to help wrench on his 80 for a bit.

This is from yesterday up there.

Hi Everyone – Darin and I got done a little bit ago flagging out the guardrail sites for this weekend’s work day. This weekend will be concentrating on illegal bypasses on Dickey Bell Trail. Also, if we have a couple of folks that are really familiar with the trail locations and numbers that can accurately mark them we’ll have Jeff bring orange diamonds and the # decals and the arrows to mark the trails better. We also marked several trees that need to be felled and I’ll make sure Jeff brings his chainsaw equipment and he’ll bring the pole saw because there are a lot of sections of the trails that need to be cut back. If you have pruners or pole saw please bring them up and we can have some folks brush back the trails.

I’ll also have several signs ready for you to install for “No Vehicles Beyond this point” to put up behind or at the ends of the guardrails and there’s 2 sections of split rail we’ll have you put up to add to existing split rail on Dickey Bell. We marked more than enough areas to install guardrail at and to do some slashing in too.

I’ll be ordering seed and mulch for the September & October work days. For those two days we’ll work on blocking illegal bypasses and then seeding and mulching behind the barricades to get some revegetation to start a little faster. We appreciate everyone’s help. We continue to have a hard time keeping up with the illegal bypasses and your help is very important.

Jeff will meet you at 9 am at the Uwharrie Hunt Camp and then some of you will have to go with him to the Arrowhead Sprayfield to get guardrail, split rail and posts to install.

Remember that the October work day is being moved to October 25!!!!!

Bye - Terry

From looking around yesterday people have already picked up most of the garbage from the sites up there.

Tim's truck is now at my house. With the first non-rainy weekend in almost a month coming up, I will need to get work done on his rig. I will have to miss this event.

I will do my best to make the next one.

how far into the trail are the guard rails going up, I'll be in a Jetta if I make it tomorrow so I'll have to hike in and out
