So i was looking over the old thread Dave started years ago about his 80. Fast forward to now, and i was wondering what to do about the front suspension of the 80.

I have taken out the OME heavys and spacers front and rear and am replacing them with OME 861/862 springs. So this is going to put my castor way far the other way correct? When you typed Forward arm mounts have been changed.. what does this exactly mean? and can it be undone? I noticed the bolts are welded onto the LCAs. was this done to correct castor? I see it has the yellow bushing, so in theory if the arm was unmodified i should be right where i need to be for castor....

Does this make any sense? do you even remember what when on with that rig so many moons ago?
I'm still in process of putting it back together so i can't just go get the castor checked, so i thought i'd ask the question while its all still apart..

thanks!
Jon

IIRC that truck has spacers in front for sure
not rears?
front spacer levels MAF 4 inch kit
front axle has bushings and also forward arm mounts have been changed for caster,
which is why it handles so well.
it is a tad tall tho....
just toss some 37 inchMTR's on and go

I'm going to guess that hes has OME bushings and the old weld on plates that Downey was selling.

If I'm right the bushings will be yellow and the plates are a triangular shape welded to the bottom side of the frame mount. If that is the case I doubt seriously that it drove the best it could.

take it to a shop and have a caster sweep done. Depending on any additional weight on the truck you actually might be low on caster.

That truck drove very well for the lift...sucked batteries like, well, you know....she got passed around a bit, fun ride.....traded between at least 4 other people here in NH over 5-6 years, I think I owned it like 3 times....I did not lift it....pretty sure that was what I was told..old MAF 4inch kit OME bushings...still in touch with last owner before me, he may have changed some stuff, lockers were always fussy

37s and go buddy!
cut the bolts off and try the hole, if you are putting on shorter springs, should work

it rode GREAT for the amount of lift in it. so much better than my wrangler on 33's i was surprised. battery issue i fixed.. something in the alarm wiring was draining the batteries. front locker was toast, and i replaced the rear with a manual cable setup that dave had.
Never bothered to fix the front locker, as my intention was to use this as a hauler for my cj7 tube rig. so out came the lift to try to get this better equipt to pull stuff.

guess i'll just finish the new spring install and get a castor sweep done. i was hoping (and still am) that i don't have to pull it all apart again.. allthough this time will be MUCH easier.
Nice pics...i'll save those to remember how cool it was lifted.. it looks fairly silly currently
