I'm installing 350 SBC with a 700r4 tranny with Atlas 2 Transfer case in a 74 fj40 I know the changes to the drivetrain needed. my question is how much sheet metal work will be required in the floor?

Welcome.

This will probably get more play over here.

It will depend on a number of things, but mostly, where you engine/transmission is located in reference to the body, and if you are using any sort of body lift.

You can see in this picture:

From this thread <---- this is a link, the amount of floor modifications needed to make it work in that application.

Thanks for the reply,I was considering this eng tranny and transfercase because I already have them,do you have any suggestions on trannys and transfercase that would require the least amout of alterations to the floor and hold up to a 383 strocker, and have a overdrive gear for the highway?

are you making your own motor mounts and tranny mount? if so you can just lower it some. if you are going to do it... do it once and do it right. you have the hardware many dream about. just take the extra time to make it fit.

So that you can have four or five inches of drive train hanging below the frame rail, before you make a skid plate to protect your four-grand-plus worth of drive train components, that will be dragging and bashing off of obstacles?

Only to realize that you get to re-do your install, because you learned the hard way that a flat-bottom truck does not get caught and hung up on things like one that has a substantial skid plate hanging six inches below the frame rail?

Close!

i used a 302 with nv4500 atlas 2 driver side drop. had to cut a lot of the floor
