Okay, so I've already scrubbed the LCML list about this and this site. The question I have is this: what are the installation difficulties in mounting on a 55 with stock 2F and headers? I don't plan to ever do a SBC on it and I don't want to give away my firstborn for a 60 gearbox so I was thinking Astro since I found one on eBay for $40. I've heard a tiny blip about motor mounts or shock towers in the way but couldn't find any pics.

Thoughts?

Reasons I'm thinking astro:
- Mounts inside instead of outside like normal saginaw
- eliminates the drag link required with stock/mini
- parts are quite readliy available
- mounting doesn't seem like it would be hard at all. A bit like fj60 box.

Hunt around in some local junkyards or something you can find a 60 or saginaw or scout for a good price if your patient. I got everything out of a 60 for $100. I know where to get everything from a mini truck too just in case I ever need it. Theres a lot more write ups for you to reference that way too.

i remember takin some measurin tools to one a few sleeps back and i didnt think it was gonna be in the way of the motor mounts or anything. seemed like it would tuck right in the frame at the crossmember near the radiator. i would think you could save on the shipping and just go buy one at a pullin yard in so cal.

my 55 has astro van PS... if I recall it is a 3 to 1 box (a little fast but OK) instead of the 4 to 1 standard saginaw. It mounts fine inside the framerail out of site. It works well and the frame is sleeved on both side for mounting. There is maybe an inch clearance on the radiator but it fits. Also, the driver side motor mount is notched to accomodate the stock steering shaft. No biggie, HTH and LMK if you need more pics... I do have the TBI SBC not a 2F.

there's a couple more here for reference. Used a nice straight GM car pitman arm to marlin high steer arms and custom "Fryrod" with FJ-60 TRE's.

Somebody last minute snaked the ebay auction so I'll probably just start scouting the pick n pulls. My locals haven't had any astro or scout and I don't want Saginaw so I'll just keep looking.

thanks for replies and pics... that helped.
