My wife wants a cruiser.

To my amazing surprise my wife :princess: said she wants a Land Cruiser . I about SHAT myself when she said that. Of course I think it may have something to do with my amazing abiltity of suggestion . Well she really wants a 100 series but since I'm in charge I get to decide (compromise) with her on what she will be driving.

There is a guy in asheville with a 80 series rig 145XXX but it has lockers front rear, arb bumper with winch and my wifes concern decent leather interior. For the asking price of 6600 I think it would be worth it but seems a little high and he is not willing to come down. But I have not looked at to many 80's so I'm not quite sure what is and is not a good price. Not to mention a better way to get my wife to finally come to one of the events. I know she would LOVE IT if she could make it to one of them.

Also Teerexfzj80 still has both of his rigs for sale at 5K.

Jason, that seems a fair price for the 80 - and you can sell the bumper and winch to recoup some of the money. Miles are very good, if it's been maintained that may be a find.

Congrats for getting through to her. :) If there's anything I/we can do to help while you are in SA, just say the word.

Without knowing more about it, that seems like a decent deal. If you decided to get something like that, I could be convinced (haha) to take the undesired arb and winch off your hands. Seriously, though, like Joe mentioned, let us know if there is anything we could help with. Also, I'm not kidding about buying the bumper and winch.

What kind of maintenance records does the current owner have? Besides engine oil, diffs, trans, and transfer, it would be good to ask about wheel bearing/knuckle condition, and antifreeze replacement (toyota red?).

Since we now have an 80 and 100, I can easily say the 100 is a bit nicer to drive on the road because of overall smoothness and noise. But, the 80 is still awfully nice offroad with front and rear full floaters and diff locks. The good thing is that both are really dropping in price, but it's tough to find a 100 at double the price of the 80.

As with any Toyota, I'd be more concerned about the overall condition than the mileage. But just about anything can be fixed with a little money and work. Not sure where you found the 80, but here is one I just saw on CL in Asheville for only $4700.
95 Toyota Land Cruiser

if you buy the cruiser, i will buy the arb with winch and you can have my stock bumper, thanks jason

Full leather replacement runs 1000-1300 done for you and im not sure what attlas' kit is going for now, but its an option if you want to do it yourself.

I'm not that picky about it. I expect it to be cracked a bit. As long as there aren't any real big tears. As long as it is in good mechanical condition I'm happy. My wife on the other hand :) I would rather spend a grand on a lift or tires, or sliders first. Ohhh yeah.

Probably first mod would be Sliders, (missing runing boards and cats are hanging way down) followed by a rear cargo sleeping area like S4 and Juan built.

I think that would be all I could get to this year before I leave. Plus I'm sure it would be MORE than capable. If I could do it in Floored-Runner I sure as hell can do it in this :steer:

I'm trying to talk my wife into driving out and looking at the vehicle. He is going to send me some pictures but here are a couple.

I asked him about maintance. He said the lady that had it last really truely was a rich old lady in this case. She had it for the first 90K miles and everything was always done at the dealer. He did not keep the records though. He said he has kept up with the maintenance as well.

He said there is absolutely no rust anywhere. I asked to verify the lockers and he said that yes he was 100% sure that it was front and rear diff locks and not the centerlock. They both function without sticking.

He said the front drivers seat has a 4" tear and the passenger is worn but no tears just cracks. The rears are good and the 3rd row have been taken out of the car and been sitting in the garage since he has had it. Tires are decnet but didn't get a percentage. He said same tires for last 60K miles but says they are wearing nicely (hmmmmm) ohh well good excuse for upgrades.

Not sure if someone near asheville wants to go look at it for me. I would most definetly repay the favor. He is going to send more pics tomorrow for me. But if all goes well I'll send a check early next week and I'm back in the club!!!:beer::clap::flipoff2::bounce:

Jason, definitely get more pix before committing - engine bay, chassis, etc. He says no rust, hopefully the nasty fairlead is due simply to non-use - but it would make me wonder about actual condition.

I wish I could get out there for you Sunday or early this week, but it's not in the cards right now. :(

Ohh know. Asheville is quite a jaunt for the Raliegh Crowd. Not sure if there is someone in Asheville that could offer an outside opinion.

He said he had put the bumper on and then afterwards the winch that he had already had from another truck...hence the rust. He also said he never hooked it up. I would also want to vefiry it worked. I don't know why you wouldn't hook up a winch. It only took me 10 minutes to do mine on my truck.

hopefully the pictures come tomorrow. Anyone in asheville?
