A couple friends and I took a few days and ran the 490 mile Arkansas section of the trans American trail ( TAT) this week. I’ve run the western 1/2 in the past and have been all over the central section but hadn’t been East of hwy 65 much.
I’d highly recommend it as a casual get away trip if your looking for something different. We ran it west to east , from NE Oklahoma to NW Mississippi , it uses as much dirt as possible with some rural pavement used when necessary. The maps and GPS tracks are available with a little research , ( that’s part of the fun isn’t it ? )
We could have done it in 2 1/2 days fairly easily but did it in a little over 3 days taking side trips to the Louisiana purchase monument among other cool places that were along the way .
Here’s a few pics in no real order since we all like pics don’t we ? Of course since I’m the one taking pics I never get any of my rig
Sorry about the Jeep pics but Bomar and I had him out numbered, besides that’s Pat Bowen in the gladiator he owns a 55 and 45 and has had about every cruiser available here at one time or the other .

Ok I’ll quit with this... but it’s a good trip and really only one short section that requires 4wd . One thought about camping, is that the western side is rich in campsites but the eastern side takes a little research . The TAT does run through 2 WMA’s and close to others on the eastern part and most have primitive camping allowed year round
Note the ultra rare sighting of the black ozark croc, spotted on warloop road by mountianburg . Also dont believe the impassable road and dead end signs on warloop. It’s no big deal.

Thanks for the awesome trip
It was a fun trip needed by all of us, with the most minimal human contact
I can imagine . That 3 1/2 lb steak was AWESOME ...
