hi all. i was looking at the battery and i didn't see any remote posts. do you really have to remove the plastic shield to jump start the car? thanks.

No remote posts. And yes, obviously, the + terminal cover simply snaps off.

i can't believe there aren't remote posts. i helped a friend jump his audi. it had all the plastic covers but it had a nice little door that opened up to reveal remote posts for the cables. another strike against the plastic covers on the LX.

That probably won't be the first time he needs to jump-start the Audi.... You're saying that lifting the plastic cover off the battery is more of a hassle than opening "a nice little door"?

If you prefer not to have the cover, it can be removed and thrown away. I like it as it keeps tools from turning into molten steel if I'm doing a little wrenching. To each his own, I guess.

i'm not talking about a little plastic shield over the positive terminal. i'm talking about the 3' x 2' plastic molded piece that covers the whole driver's side of the engine bay attached by the multiple push pins that don't seem to come out as easily as proposed in the manual.

Perhaps it's an LX-only trim piece. My LC doesn't have a plastic cover over the battery. The battery just sits there in the open and the only "cover" I have is the red terminal cover mentioned earlier. The only PITA black plastic trim piece in the engine bay on my 200 is the long piece that covers the gap between the grill and the front cross-member.

Sorry for my confusion...now I understand.

Check http://www.quickcable.com/products.php?pageId=179

Check the 2 items at the bottom of the page. One connects from the battery terminals to a receptacle, the other connects a mating plug to battery clamps. I've got the batter-to-receptacle cables on my '01 LX, both very large and very small Kubota tractors, :princess:'s Dodge Cummins horse hauler, and I'm ordering one for my new-to-me '13 Land Cruiser.

Quality is outstanding. The system is not cheap compared to clamp-to-clamp cables, but I'm glad I spent the money when something needs a jump and it's freezing ass cold outside...grab the booster cables, plug them in, and you are gtg. I'd advise shopping around as there are numerous companies selling more or less the same thing and pricing is all over the place.

here's a pic i grabbed. makes it hard to get to anything. took me longer to remove the plastic than it did to replace the 2 air filters.

Quick cable appears to be wholesale only and they're in Canada...probably easier to go to
Amazon and search for 'plug-in jumper cables'...tons of sellers.

I do a lot of diy on my 100 and 200 series trucks...have you thought of simply removing the plastic trim?? ;)

jafo9, I removed all of my plastic covers (shown in photo above) so that I could access the various engine components. I kept loosing the little plastic pieces that hold it together and did not see any use in the plastic other than covering everything up. Mine are now stacked up in the garage. As for remote terminals, no the LX does not have them. You do need to remove the plastic pieces to access your various fluids and battery.

hey LCHardriver, do you think having yours off for a while changed anything? my main concern is resale when we trade the LX in a few years. my guess is that 99.99% of LX buyers want the pretty plastic there. my fear is that if i take them off and leave them off that something will look different when i go to put them back on prior to trade in.

No, I don't think having them off changed anything. For resale, I am thinking of keeping them handy because you are probably right in that people "want" to see all of that plastic, as silly as that sounds. I do not care for it because I like seeing my fluids, belt, and engine in general. I will probably set them aside in storage and not look at them again until we think of selling the LX, if that happens.

I agree. My '01 running boards, engine cover and its brackets, and third row seats went up in the attic within a week after buying her.

On my 200 Land Cruiser, I'll do the same within the month...she only has a plastic cover across the front over the radiator...if you pull it out you'll notice the fasteners at the very ends locate a mounting tab of some kind...too late / lazy to go outside and check exactly what they're for...I'll update this in the morning.

Just an FYI on the plastic engine cover on the LX, it has sound dampening foam on the backside. For that reason alone, I am keeping mine installed. Also, let me know what you are doing when you remove the side steps. On the LX, it wraps up on the ends, so it may look a bit funny without them. I would like to see photos if you do it.
Thanks,
Jonathan

One thing about the Audi. The battery might actually be located in the trunk. Underneath the spare. Hence the remote posts.
