Measure 3 or 4 times, cut once is my mantra here. I'm installing the ARB Summit on my 2016 Land Cruiser. Following both FSM and ARB directions. One area that I wanted to confirm was the placement of the template.

The ARB directions say to line up the wheel well and left side with the fender edge. (Very easy to do.) They also suggest making a small vertical cut in the top of the template to allow it to bend with the bumper. Again, I get that.

However, I wanted to just triple check that it is the bottom edge of the template that must be flat against the bumper, like shown. (Opposed to aligning the top edge of the template along the bumper edge- that actually brings the template vertically up a bit and not perpendicular with the headlight washers.)

I oriented the template beginning on the left w/ the 2 pieces of tape to hold it. I then ran my finger along the bottom (cut line) edge of the template to keep it perfectly flat along the curve of the bumper. That resulted in the right edge of the template end up where you see it, about 1/8" below the headlight washer, where i secured it w/ another piece of tape.

It looks correct to me but I just want to be paranoid a bit here. The small pictures in the ARB install directions are... very small.

Do you guys see any concerns here or does it look correct?

thanks!

Did you get the 3415220 or the new 3415250 for your 16?

I am starting mine Monday ...

Did you get the PDF file or just the print out? The PDF file has better pictures like this.

My reading of the directions says to align along the "under side of the headlight", not the bumper skin but the headlight.

Thanks for the pictures- those are better. I just grabbed the PDF, thanks for the reminder!

I got the 3415220. I can't find much information on the 3415250, do you have a photo or know what the differences are?

The the pic of the cut looks like this

Hope that helps a little?

I got the 5250 I think the difference is the fog lights use the OEM ones.

No pic of it yet it's still wrapped up.

Thanks- I sent ARB a note asking about the differences between the two bumpers. I'm very curious now. The 5220 does accept the OE fog lights from my 16. I wonder if there were tweaks recommended over the years that have been corrected in the newer model or if it is something else.

Well, I guess we're all getting the 5250 now. My order, invoice, etc says 3415220 but I went out to the garage and the sticker on the bumper shows part number 3415250. Phew, confusion averted, but I am still curious. I wonder if it has to do with the SRS compliance or some other sort of regulation. I noticed the mounting brackets crumple zones definitely seemed engineered.

Question:

First I did mine the way you have yours and it fits nice ..

My question is about under the front grill: How did you cut this section?

I looks like it needs to be notched.

I figured it out.... way later in the instructions... it then later cuts a notch in the skin.

Glad you got it worked out. I meant to update this thread after I got the bumper mounted to confirm the best/right way to orientate the template. I also did talk with ARB. What worked, and what they said was to align the left and bottom edges of the template with the quarter panel and fender well. (Which is pretty clear.) However you do want to cut that vertical cut and then make sure the top of the template does follow the headlight, so it will curve a bit around the bumper. You can see that twist/wrinkle in the template in the picture below.

And also be sure the bottom of the template remains flat up against the bumper. If you stand back from the bumper and look at it straight on, you can actually confirm that the cut line is indeed parallel to the ground (horizontal). In my first photo above you maybe able to see the template is actually sloping down a bit in front (which is also the yellow line below and -not- correct).

Here is the the template orientation that I actually cut (the black line) out. (The yellow line is the original, incorrect line.)

And here is the final, which I am happy with.

The spacing between the bumper is 22mm which is at the outer range of the suggested 18mm to 22mm. I don't actually mind the spacing, and the rest of the bumper lines up well, too.

(It might look like there is interference but nothing touches.)

All in all, pretty happy. Hope this helps!

The bumper mounts can slide outward a little so that is not rubbing.
The 5250 instructions have good directions for the signal lights on the bumper. The photos are off but the wire color in the written instructions is correct (vs the older 5220 instructions). i.e. use the white wire with the black stripe for the ground on the grey connectors.

and it took a few moments to find the fuse box for the running lights .. called tail lights which is under the dash.

think the difference is the LED signal lights that come with it.

I'm getting ready to install the front bumper on my cruiser. Any chance you know where this PDF is? Or could you post it here?
