ARB rear bumper

I made the mistake of buying one. Don't get me wrong they are a quality bar but it doesn't suit my needs.

I was in the market for a Kaymar or similar and my ARB rep told me this bar had just been released. I made an impulse buy and ordered one straight away without doing any research.

I do a fair bit of medium to hardcore 4wdriving as well as touring and this bar has killed my departure angle, not to mention that it wieghs a ton.

Before fitting this bar I was quite happy with my light duty 2" lift but after fitting it I have needed to put heavy springs in. I went for OME 4"(OZ spec only comp springs) heavy duty springs. Even they weren't enough so I have since fitted 30mm spacers to the rear to level the ride. I went for the extra hieght to counteract the reduced departure angle.

The bar itself is great it's just the fact that it wieghs a ton and that it sticks out the back like a sore thumb that I'm not impressed with. I will probably stick with the bar though as I'm getting more and more into long distance touring as opposed to hardcore wheeling. I guess I'll have to pull my finger out and do some more work on my Daihatsu F20 based rock crawling buggy project to satisfy my hardcore wheeling fix.

Whoops.....forgot to add some pics.

Won't really work where I live.

Total lack of departure angle.

Doc, umm .. can you just edit that a tad . :D

You're a dirty bird.

One more big ass piece of evidence that ARB is not a rock crawling company.

I think you could actually manage to drag that at the mall.

you wheel your rig?

:flipoff2:

Hanna has my vote.

Exactly how much does it weigh?

I guess ARB had expedition wheeling more in mind for that bumper.

What price?? Did anyone find a link to an ARB rear bumper price for the 80?

Honestly I just got done looking at the Slee rear bumper and that thing is what I call 'brutally elegant'. That's about my highest praise for something I have not touched, but appears very well designed and far sleeker looking than ARB's future product. That Slee will have a non-tire carrier model available soon is icing on the cake and means it is compatible with stock spare tire mounting - something not stated on the site but welcome for someone like me that won't be needing the spare mount.

That bumper is a bit on the fugly side, isn't it?

second that. it looks best with the two swing out arms just that, swung out, if only you could drive around like that. i dont think im the only one who feels disapointed by this bumper. personally i was expecting something much better, in both the aesthetic area as well as the off road performance area. arb missed the boat on this one, then again maybe they feel diferently about it over there in oz?

The round lights dont do anything for it. IIRC TJM makes a nice rear bumper with rectangular lights. The ARB pictured here, especially from the side view, doesnt look good also because it looks quite tall. Wife is giving grief... gotta go.

Damn..........now with a snokel you have a swim step when in deep water

This bumper should come with chrome 22's as a gift with purchase.

Didn't wiegh it before fitting but it weighs a hell of a lot more than the two pieces of plastic and aluminium step tread. When it arrived it came in about 3 or 4 boxes, the biggest of which took two blokes to lift. When I fitted the new 4" lift it raised the front(from the old 2" lift) 70mm but the rear only came up by 15mm. I've since fitted 30mm spacers to the rear as well as the 4" lift. Even with the heavy 4" springs plus the 30mm spacer the 80 only sits at 3 3/4" higher than standard.

Slee has the non-tire carrier model in, and I just put one on a couple days ago.

It looks great on the back of my truck, and fits flush against the rear cross member.

After researching myself sick, I figured that for me it was the best compromise between weight, strength, and departure angles.

I wonder if the pricing will be similar to the 100 series bumper...

I deal with my ARB shop through work so I think my price had a bit of a trade discount but I paid AU$2600 for the bar, tyre carrier, jerry can holder and hi-lift jack mount.
