Can I replace the tow hook in the middle with a pintle hook and tow a trailer without modifications? does the 4 bolts directly attach to the rear crossmember?

That is where the OEM hitch attaches so one would "assume" it's fine. I'd be sure to use grade 10.9 hardware making sure you have enough length for full thread engagement...

Nope. I already tried this. The standard 4 hole pattern that is on the pintle hook does fit the 40 and 80 series but does NOT fit the FJC. No idea why it is different. I tow an M105 and M416 with a pintle adapter via the ARB 2" hitch receiver.

Yah, I investigated this a while back too. All other Toyota LC's have the standard NATO bolt pattern, but not the FJC - it has a smaller bolt pattern that is not a direct match for standard 4 bolt pintle hitches. I have considered cutting out that section of the frame cross member and welding in a new "blank" that I can drill to match the NATO bolt pattern.
