I've been wanting to install awnings on my pop up for a while, finally bought them from ARB, thinking I would just figure it out. Well, they are really made to be installed on roof racks, installing on a camper is a bit different. I could not find much on the internet on how to do it, and I did it solo, so this is what I figured out.
1. The awnings have a piece of aluminum with two channels that fit bolt heads (not included).
2. To make sure I drilled holes in the right places, I made templates by taping paper along the channel aluminum and then used charcoal to create an impression of the back of the channel.
3. taped the template in place, and drilled the holes where the bolt channels were on the template.
4. put the bolts in the channel on the awning, applied silicon adhesive to the holes and rail, then pushed the bolts through, used big fender washers and nylock nuts on the inside of the camper and tightened evenly from the center out. - note, snug up the bolts with hand tools, I spun one in the soft aluminum channel playing with my new drill. woops. One more thing, make sure you don't drill through anything important of course, and be sure nuts on the inside do not get in the way of any moving parts. -
