....synthetic engine oil?

I'd like to go to Amsoil.

If I'm good, can anybody recommend a couple good choices for filters?

Thanks to all....

I second on the factory filters.........hard to beat OEM Toyota filters.

why you going to synthetic oil? as long as you change your oil when you should you will be good. but if you do synthetic amsoil is one of the best out there.

i'm looking for super, ultra longevity in this truck and have read nothing but good things about amsoil.

that's pretty much it.

that and i'd rather not have to change the oil as often.

it's not that big of a deal but it's just less maintenance.

Change to synthetic whenever you want to. Mine has had Amsoil in it since the first oil change. 106,000 miles so far, doesn't use a drop between extended changes.

I switched over to Amsoil around 50k... and 15K later loving it. Beau Jaramillo is the guy who takes care of us for Amsoil... I'm using their oil and air filters too... they do a great job

A bunch of folks with 80 series trucks switch to synthetics at well over 100k miles, so you shouldn't have any trouble. I think the old myth of not switching to synthetic oil in higher mileage engines doesn't apply to modern day synthetic oil formulations.

I have also heard good things about Amsoil.

Even better, with this thread, you witness the cohesiveness within the Toyota world.

If anyone had even mentioned oil on the Mustang or Pontiac G8 message boards, a 15 page long fight over what oil is the best would have ensued.

Cool....didn't know FZJ80s and FJCs shared the same oil filter.
Now I have a reason to stock up on them.

I use Mobil 1 filters primarily because I can get them for $8 each. Good filter at good price = works for me. Never been a fan of Amsoil's marketing practices so I've never used.

Dino oil plus routine changes and a motor will last a long long time. If you're interested in extended oil changes, any of the PAO synthetics should facilitate that.

The 2010's come from the factory with 0w20 synthetic, I ran synthetic in my FZJ80, my 1999 100 series and both my 2004 LX470's, I always did the changes at 5-6K mile intervals which I know might be an over kill :-)

I've run Castrol Syntec and Toy filter through our truck since it's second oil change.
The truck is approaching 210,000km without one hint of trouble.
It's been a great truck, we're looking forward to hitting 500,000;)

Not sure about the 80 and the FJ taking the same filter but....

I swear by Synlubes, I use them in the diffs of all my LC's.
The first dif change in my FJ was at 26K, the rear diff was filthy.
I went back with Toyota regular lube and then dumped it again at 35K, it was better but still dirty.
I went with Synlube at 35K.
I've changed it 2 times since then with synlube, most recently at 97K and the dif is running clean. This indicates low wear, IMO.
I have used syn lube M-1 in the FJ engine since my first oil change. The oil stays clean through the 6K that is my oil change interval. Again, clean oil indicates low wear, IMO.
Regarding the oil filter question, I think the oil filter on my '07FJ is about 1/2 the size of the one on my '96 80................gm
