I made it out to Anza Borrego for a few days and it was worth the effort. Green, cool, no dust, very beautiful and just a few core hikers out there. Check out the link. Oh yeah, made my 1st apple cobbler with the dutch oven...oh man that is so good.

looks like you guys had fun- especially your kids and the cactus... hopefully mine will grow to be as funny (my kids that is)

Great pics!

I started cooking with the dutch ovens several years ago and they are the way to go. Anything you can imagine or want to eat you can cook in one.

Great pictures Scott, thanks for sharing. I think that is the first time I have seen someone catch a ride quite like that at the creek crossing. Looks like fun.

Thanks Mo that was fun. My son was actually videoing the crossing and getting beat down by the reeds. When do I get to go wheeling with you again? I hope soon, Happy New Year!

Here is a really good website for dutch oven cooking.
Byron's Dutch Oven Cooking Page

I have made the easy peach cobbler several times and love it.

Cee Dub's dutch oven cooking books are also good, I have one and my brother has his other one.

Amazon.com: Cee Dub's Dutch Oven and Other Camp Cookin': Books: C. W. Welch

For years I camped cooking stuff like canned pork and beans until I was introduced to dutch ovens and what you can make easy with them and then I was hooked.

Thanks Dan, great info. :D

Wow, that pic with your rig at the base of the Fish Creek cliffs is amazing. what a cool perspective. Definitely need to get out there now

Yeah, Fish Creek is simply amazing, we had a long lunch stop so we weren't able to make it to Sandstone Canyon. If you do go out be sure to add Sandstone to your agenda as well. Take care.

Scott,

Glad the apple cobbler turned out!

Brent-

It was great. I made another yesterday in the back yard and it turned out even better but I still like your recipe better so send it over when you have a chance. Thanks.

Will do If I can find the email from Andy. If not, I'll retype it and send it.

Coyote Canyon has got to be one of my favorite places out in Anza. So damn peaceful and quiet as folks w/o our type vehicles can't get there. Looks like you guys had the place to yourselves. Nice!!!

Don't go out of your way on the recipe, I'll be fine without it but like I said, it was great, it could be the cook also. :)

Because of the hiliday we there were actually a lot of hikers out in Sheep and Cougar and we ran into a group of 13 uber Jeeps driven by well to do retirees. These guys and gals spend their days traveling the US, looking for offrroad challenges in super fine motorhomes towing the Jeeps behind. Whatta life! :D
