Anyone upgraded from the old nav screen (06 and back) to the newer, higher res stock nav screen (07+)?

Not a Tesla screen, but just moving an 07+ nav screen with the higher resolution to an older GX for use with a GROM unit (for example)?

The HVAC controller most likely not compatible since it's proven some people for wrong year non nav conversion and the HVAC does not work as intended.

Echoing Jstawgn’s comments. Also want to add that I’m fairly certain the actual plugs / cables are different on the newer nav head units.
I’d asked about something similar - could I swap out the screen from a newer one. Someone posted pictures of the backs of the two nav head units, and showed that there are some differences between years.

I figured this would be the case. Thanks for the input.

There are some decent options if you don’t want to go the route of a full non-nav conversion or use a Tesla style unit.

you can get the wiring kit from beatsonic GX 470 - Toyota/Lexus - Stereo Installation Kits - STEREO

and install a single din unit in place of the tape deck. There’s a single din unit (I think a Sony) that has a flip up touch screen. So it wouldn’t replace the nav unit, but you’d get a nice screen.

ive been weighing my options with headunit stuff, and I’m probably going to settle with my iPhone / iPad mini mounted on the dash for nav, and then the GTA Bluetooth + aux kit to connect it to the nav unit.

Yeah, I've been doing a bunch of digging. Not into the Tesla screen; I've heard too many issues. I'm down for a non-nav conversion, but so far I've only found one a/c control unit and they want $400 for it which is steep.

Could you expand on the GTA Bluetooth/aux kit? I'm not sure I'm familiar with that option. As long as I can use my phone for nav and music, I'm happy.

Similar feelings about the Tesla. If it was pure plug and play, and no weird issues with the firmware, ac controls, etc., it would be my favorite option. Alas.

the gta adapter just replaced the CD player in your system. You remove the CD player and plug in the GTA stuff. I think you retain steering wheel controls (you absolutely do for volume, not sure about the rest) because it uses the CD player input on the head unit.

For me this gets me ~85% of everything I want for ~$160: audio from my phone or other devices through the car’s speaker and retain the car’s volume controls, and factory hvac controls (this last one is an absolute must imo).

the only other way to retain factory hvac is with a non-nav conversion (can get pretty pricey for those hvac controls and new head unit).

replacing the nav screen itself isn’t a huge priority to me because I don’t like having to take my eyes off the road to glance down at the screen. With a phone / iPad mini mounted to the dash, I have a high quality nav screen that feels safer to use.
