I hear there's a lot of new "No Shooting" areas out there, keep it legal. Also, make sure you pack out your targets. Have fun.

its a posted Shooting area with a hov park farther down the trail so says the notice board at the end of the frontage road.

Also be sure if state trust land permit is required. Last thing you need is a problem with LEO while target shooting.
No target shooting is allowed on State Trust Land!

From the permit application:

The Permittee shall not discharge a firearm on State Trust
Land, except pursuant to lawful and licensed hunting.

Fair enough. But don't you love ambiguity?

If'n you get a redneck marksman, he might just shoot his way to literacy.:hillbilly::idea:

This is a perfect example of why a few irresponsible shooters give the rest of us a bad name, although to be fair it looks like the shooter was not ON trust land but only shooting AT trust land. ;)

A lot of us in the club have been to cleanups where there are literally dumpsters full of shooter trash taken out. All the public sees are these trash heaps and never see the sites where I (and I hope y'all) shoot because there is nothing left on the ground.

Ironwood monument :ban: banned :ban: all target shooting and there was a huge outcry from the local shooters, but I saw several sites last weekend that still had shooter trash, and many many signs that were shotup. I hate that the few bad shooters screwed the rest of us, but this is all the average citizen sees of shooters:

Why not just invest in a real proven battle rifle like the FN FAL?

What is the current price a FN FAL? Late eighties they were over $800. Do they still import original FNs or just the knock off? Not military or claim to be nor would I call myself a commando type. Just a guy who enjoys shooting military type rifle. Really like shooting back in the eighties and nineties when it was around ten cents around to shoot military surplus ammo. Semi auto and full auto go thru it quick. Really need a fancier name then plinking at a dollar a round.

The OP built .308 may very well be a bolt action hunting rifle. Over the years it has seem to the be the replacement for the 30.06. My .308 is not a hunting rifle but I did cut down a 20 round clip to only hold five rounds. Figure out in the field it would be easier to keep Game and Fish happy with a short clip rather then a block installed in a full twenty round clip.

A responsible shooter didn't shoot that first sign because if they did they would have shot out the two Os in shooting in the "Target shooting is not allowed" line.

Same holds true with off roaders. Talking with one of the local who live full time where my cabin he got all up when I told him it bothered me all the people who cut a gate in the fence between their property and forest service land so they cam drive directly into the forest with their quads. Before I could explain it was because it gave ammo to those trying to close more areas down he said people from down in the valley shouldn't even be up there.:bang:[/QUOTE]

Over at TRAL, we've learned that signs with American flags on them don't collect as many bullet holes.

What kinda commie would shoot at 'Merica?!

Same idea used on the glass building on the North side of Shea on the greenbelt (around) 48th St? THe kids that would hang out in that wash and skateboard on the cement would constanly throw rocks at the glass building and put holes in it. The bulding owner ended up putting large lettering on the side of that portion of the building that said "God Bless America". Now who would smash up both God and their country?!

Great idea !

I haven't seen any rock damage on that building since those letters were put up 3 years ago.
