I am away from the cruiser right now. Wanted to buy some bolts to waterproof holes left over from removing the 2000LC spoiler. Anyone happen to know the size of these 4 bolts? I don't need lengt, just width. No big deal, so if you don't know off the top of your head please don't bother measuring.

what spoiler? the little wind deflector type that is black or maybe painted to match, or one with the CHMSL(Center High Mount Stop Lamp) intergrated into it?

Bolt Size

I finally had a chance to measure. Bolt is M8, 1.25 thread, in case anyone needs this. It is for the old style spoiler without the integrated light.

Perfect for removing.

You guys don't do a lot of driving on dirt roads or snowy roads, do you? Those things are priceless for keeping the rear window clear. My '98 came w/o out one and am putting one on soon. Tired of not seeing out the back window.

Nah, we just know when something's ghey... not that there's anything wrong with that. :D

There's this other thing back there that cleans the rear window whenever I turn it on. :D Oh yeah, and x2 on the ghey part.

If you like dragging grit across your window. It WILL scratch eventually. Perhaps things are different for you East Coast posers. I wheel my cruiser that's why I bought it. I'm on my third Cruiser. Function wins over looks every time. I guess if I was was worried about what the other folks at the mall thought, I'd have bought a different truck.

Running boards are functional too. Did you keep those on?

Yeah, Greg and I never wheel...

And...

it's still ghey. :flipoff2:

My previous truck (93 4Runner) had the ghey and as a result I hardly ever needed to switch on the thing that cleans the rear window. Good thing too, because the size of the refill on it was PITA to find. The clip was a proprietary design and even harder to find a replacement for.

At least my current truck takes the standard size in the rear. (now *that* sounds ghey)

My "factory" LC rear deflector does not keep my back window any cleaner than my 4Runner's rear window that has no deflector.

Sounds like a new project I will have to tackle. For anyone that removed it, what was it like underneath? I'm wondering if I will see any paint damage with ghetto wing delete.

If you wheel your 100 so hard, then scratches on the rear window from dust should be the least of your worries. And function can come from the wiper just as easy as it can come from the spoiler without looking ghey. :flipoff2:

There are four nutserts that hold the wing on. You'll need to seel them up to keep water from getting in. Here's a pic of the nutserts.

Edit: I also want to add, you definitely want to come up with a way to seal around the base of the nutsert. I initially took mine off, only to find out that water can leak inside. So, I had to put mine back on until I found a way to seal around the nutsert. I now have a bracket on each side to hold a light on one side and a cb antenna on the other. (So I can see and communicate with people at the mall) :flipoff2: I used rubber washers and silicone around the nutserts before I bolted the brackets on. I'll take some pics tonight to show you how they turned out.

Somewehat of topic, but it always surprised me that Toyota did not continue to put the third stop light on the INSIDE of the rear glass (like in the 80 series?) instead of in a new "penetration" of the rear door. A slim strip of LEDs or bulbs would have easily fit.

In old "home country" such a penetration is a shure place to see rust develop...

Back to topic, for those of you who got LCs w/o the rear spoiler, do you have the captive nuts/inserts as well, or were those installed "at port"?

Didn't mean to piss everyone off:confused:
Different styles, I guess. You're right, the pistriping on the sides makes sctratches on the back window seem less importanat, but they do buff out easier.
Mine came w/ the deflector and does not have the captive nuts/inserts.
Don't like the light up in the spoiler either, just like to see out my window.
Unwad your panties and go enjoy your trucks.:flipoff2:

TLC, if you don't have the nutserts, how is your deflector attached to the truck? Industrial adhesive?

To seal nutsert holes in the past, I've removed the nutsert, then used a rubber expansion nut that kinda looks like this except the screw in on the opposite side so that when it is tightened, the rubber expands and seals the hole. On the outside, I used stainless steel rosette washers over silicone sealant. All parts were sourced at OSH.

Sweet

I will tackle it this weekend. Thanks for the info guys!
Looking forward to the weight reduction. ;)

PM'd you jomo. I agree w/ Dan, and I'm actually looking for a spoiler for my 2000 LC, so let me know if you have one sitting around.

P.S. I'm resorting to the ghey LC spoiler only because the retrofit of a Lancer EVO spoiler didn't work :flipoff2:
