Hi folks, anyone know the inner diameter (mm) of our radiator hoses? Thanks. I know, kinda strange, I'm following up on several helpful hints from Mot but I'm basically hoping someone here has hoses laying around they would not mind measuring! It's either that or I'm choppin mine and pulling out the micrometer! Thanks. OOOPs forgot the

Used hose expanded and the ends deformed from the clamps. Why not pulling out the meter and measure the radiator's neck ? Wouldn't it be more accurate ?

which one are you talking about and where?

Ahh crap, you mean they measure differently? Well let me ask another question first, if someone was measuring the coolant temperature through the radiator hoses, would you want to measure the temp at its hottest (before the rad) or at its coolest (after the rad). In other words, does the coolant temp gauge on our rigs measure the temp of the coolant feeding the engine or the temp of the coolant after leaving the engine? I guess I sorta thought it was measuring it midway in the block??? If someone can answer that for me I can tell you which hose, but, still, are they different ID's really? SJ, I think you are onto something there ... if I measure the Outer Diameter of the metal tubes on the rad that the rubber hoses connect to, I should get the Inner Diameter of the rubber hoses as well assuming the hose is exactly the same size as the tube. I'll go see if I can see enough of the metal on any of those to measure it. Thanks guys. Perhaps I should have stated that I think the inner diameter should be 38mm but before I acted on that, I thought I'd ask the fine folks here. Thanks.

The factory temp sensor is on the drivers side in the block ot head, I don't recall which. Reach under the intake manifold and you can find with your hand three sensors in a row. Anyway, it is common practice to measure the temp of the coolant in the engine. If you are going to measure in a hose, be sure to choose the hose on the drivers side that flows from engine into the radiator.

"Quick" measurement with tape on my project engine shows 1.5" OD top and bottom... these are the steel and aluminum pipes on the engine that feed the radiator... so that would be in INNER DIAMETER of the hose... just though I would make it confusing for you.

Okay, using SJ's suggestion, I measured and came up with 38mm which is approximately 1.49 inches. Also from Rich's suggestion I think that the temp is supposed to get measured at its hottest as it exits the engine. This is all linking back to an awesome suggestion from Mot on how to add an aftermarket coolant temp sensor even if the factory "extra" location on that aluminum neck off the engine is taken up with a line for something else, OR if someone just does not want to drill and tap that neck. I'm gonna try to post a pic of this thing here but sometimes have a hard time doing that. I'll also post a pic on the other thread "Aluminum Radiator" when I know if this will work. Thanks to all of you on this thread and thanks to Mot from the other, I appreciate it.
