Howdy fellas. Ain't been round much lately, got sicker than dog #%$#. Managed to get a sinus infection, that stomach virus and bronchitis all at once, was coughing so bad I threw out an old disc injury too boot...lol. I need to start going to church or something:)

Anyhow, so I've been laying around sick just surfing all this week. Hunted doves when I was younger and always wanted to get into duck hunting and believe the season is over for the year, but want to get ready for next year. Would love to talk to any local members who do duck hunt.... bout shotguns, techniques, etc. Believe Ramon duck hunts, but ain't 100% sure. Might pull the trigger on shotgun in about 4 days(auction) and wanted to get a hunter's opinion that specific long gun on it as well.

Thanx!

I haven't done any since I lived out here but did some on the west coast. I honestly prefer dove and pheasant since there is more movement involved instead of sitting in a duck blind, freezing one's butt off. But, the times I did go was fun, as long as I stayed warm and dry.

Regarding shotguns, I'm lazy and prefer Remington 11-87 and a handful of choke tubes to help with tuning range/spread depending on what I'm shooting at. Sometime down the road, I'm sure I'll get my hands on a nice over-under but for now, the 11-87 works very well and is very reliable for me...

Just call me Yo-Han. I'm on my damn bb, so we can chat later but suffice it to say - YEAH I duck hunt!!! Benelli is the way to guy - last shotgun you'll ever NEED to buy.

Thanks fellas fer the replies! Was eyeballing some brownings & berettas, almost bought a Gold at the last gunshow. Kewl, Ramon... I'll ping ya.

I was an avid duck hunter for most of my years. However, that has tapered off since I moved to NC. I am from North Dakota/Minnesota and I got pretty spoiled chasing birds up there. I try to get back to NoDak as much as I can, but the last trip was a few years back now.

As far as shotguns go, if you are looking for very occasional use, you may want to consider a less expensive route. It is tough to beat a Remington 870. The Benelli Nova is another good option. Both are pumps and are fail-proof. Semi-autos are nice, but significantly more expensive, more maintenance intensive, and can be more prone to issues.

That being said, I have a Remington 870 Wingmaster pump and an 11-87 auto.
