You might have better luck with a bead blaster. I remember the auto tech class at Robinson has one. Mr. Galliot might be hanging around there in the summer. A few auto garages in burke have them too. I think burke auto has one. Prob let you use them for cheap or trade for coffee.
 
Take it over to Extreme Powder Coating and they will clean it up for you.

Have them powder coat it while your are there!
 
Thanks for the tip. Sent Extreme an email. They're only a few miles from me so that would work out great.
