hello everyone...again

I've been wanting to get this dashbox for a while now.

Does anyone in the area have one installed? If so, what are your impressions?
here is a pic snatched from a dozen or so other threads..

another pic of the locking mechanism...that doesn't look all that beefy. I suppose an easy method to make this a PITA to completely pry open quickly would be to add two more locks at the ends like a truck camper top.

I'd like to see one in person before i pick my own up.
I'm always looking for more lockable storage, esp for the summer months when the top is off.

thanks for looking

and while I'm at it, has anyone replaced the glovebox lid w/ a steel panel that locks? i've seen people just drill a hole in the lid...but it looks pos and i don't want to modify the stock part. Think i'll add a tuffy console or prob the smittybilt version and modify.

I bought a fairly sturdy diamond plate toolbox and bolted it to the floor by the driver's side rear wheel well. I placed open cell neoprene between the vehicle and the toolbox and lined the inside of the toolbox with neoprene to avoid the contents from making an awful racket when driving. It's not too white trash.

i remember your write up. bolted it to the floor w/ stock holes. I'll prob end up doing the same kind of thing...cept w/ bigger mortar ammo cans behind the seats then maybe bedline them and add some locks.

I had a dash box in my FJ40 - I really loved it. I also used a lock that Josh F. found to lock my glove box and that worked out great too. In the same truck, I had a Tuffy console but then had to remove it when I did the V8 swap because the shifter went between the seats.

I prefer the old school Con-Ferr console to the Tuffy but both are great. The Tuffy is great for your radio.

ok
Price is $299 (went up $25 since the fall) and then $28 shipping to Fairfax. I'd assume shipping should be the same to your People's Republic of Maryland

I might wait a bit to order...or just buy myself a welder or oxy/accet set up and give a try at some booty fab

Not that hard to make one...if you get a few pieces pre bent and then bend the rest yourself. Arlington Iron has a nice plate brake and can follow drawings and templates with great precision.

I have a MIG Welder, OXY-Fuel setup and a plate brake that I am probably going to sell soon. Looks like my car hobby is coming to an end soon. I think I am going to buy a 100 series or a FJ Cruiser and stop building trucks until my kids are in college.

In the meantime, I'll live vicariously through you loosers :flipoff2:

sweet, I'll def have to take a hard look at what you're selling. Hopefully I'll actually be able to afford some of it.

i like the dashbox...but it's not big enough for what i want to use it for and don't really like that way it locks. Plus...w/ some more tools i could make it plus some other fun stuff. I'd rather pay 2x to build it rather than the convenience of buying it off the shelf.

It's needs to be big enough for a stage coach 12G....

no kiddin! Dad and Grandpa would be proud...and jealous.
Kinda wish i had video of the last time we went shooting at my buddies farm past middleburg. Driving while shooting is fairly difficult...but doable. My buddy was riding shotgun...

When I was kid back home in the PI, you'd see the Constabulary driving around the provinces in dune biege FJ40's packed with about 7 guys all carrying M-16's. My dad was friends with this guy Caholigan who was a big shot in the constabulary and he'd roll by our house with several FJ40's bristling with guns. They basically used them as gun trucks. The guys would get out and walk around and I'd drool over the trucks. Funny how here in the states, it's a cool SUV but back home and in the rest of the world it's a full on military truck.

sweet. In the summertime you can usually see my cruiser rolling around with rucks strapped to the sides, guncases in the rear, and a couple of guys in camo talkin $h7t headin off for some dumb adventure.
