Anyone ever used lampblack on parts, or body panels?

Just throwing this out there. Finished rehabbing my spare smogpump, and noticed that if I mixed up the acetone with some of the carbon soot, I could 'paint' the steel face of the pump...
Sooo, I wonder if anyone has used the product and made their own mixture?
Thanks

Good idea. I didn't know anyone even knew what lampblack was anymore, kinda old school.

Yeah?
Does it halt rust, that is the real idea. And wasn't lampblack the 'go-to' for marine applications?

not sure about the marine application but it dose inhibit rust, my dad used to rub it on his wood stove to prevent rust, and keep the stove looking nice because it's not effected by the heat. It doesn't peel like paint.

Yes but it is known to cause cancer so, wear your respirator.

What dosnt cause cancer in the state of California
Lol

Bringing this one back up, anyone old school doing this?
I may try to blend the soot into linseed oil and then use that along the inside of the door skins to prevent corrosion.
