Gonna change out the pads tomorrow and wondered if anyone has done their own brakes? Any surprises or tips?

Get it wrong and you will DIE - no pressure there

for a brake job, couldn't have been easier.

74,000 miles and there was still some pad left (but not much).

Not really. The good thing about doing brakes is that if you don't put the parts together properly, they simply won't fit and you can't get it all back together. Unless you forget to tighten the wheels, etc.

Brakes are a very simple system unless you get into the ABS.

Have you ever worked on brakes?

Are you going to turn your rotors yourself?

It was more a joke, but to answer your question - yes i know how to work on brakes (actually an ASE cert mech before moving to the Middle East)

The big issue I usually see when people try and do this work themselves is not properly bleeding the brake system. I have found the 200 sometimes have some sneaky air bubbles so we bleed the system till we get a min of 200ml to come out of the calipers.

xkennx,

Very cool pics! And I guess you do know your way around brakes. I agree that bleeding is tricky for folks without experience. I have not bled them on the 570 yet, but have for about every other vehicle that I have. Not a big deal as long as you don't get air in the system, as you said!

Back when I had my 07 RS4 I bought a motive power bleeder. That thing is amazing for bleeding your brakes.

Another good tip I used was tapping on the caliper with a rubber mallet when bleeding.

we've been waiting for you to reply, xkennx. thanx for throwing in the pictures, too.
