Took my flares off, really like the looks of the 80 w/out them. I'm going to Durabak the rockers and fenders, but would rather use white. I'm concerned that it would stain too easy and be a pain to clean. Should I just go black and forget it?

Thanks.

Once you go black, you'll never go back...:D

Sorry, couldnt resist.

This is a great question as I also have a white 80 and just recently smashed both front flares...I will be watching to see what other say...

As you've probably seen in your searches on this, most of us have gone black and never looked back!

FWIW, I saw an old 4Runner that had white bedliner on the body. The owner said it stained real easily.

I've wanted to use something on my white 80, and thought about some type of gray or silver. JM$.02

I was going to do my entire 80 in white Durabak and I had chosen the Smooth UV version because the rubber texture in white would seem to hold dirt terribly. I decided to restore the paint instead.

Keep in mind that the Toyota white is not bright white, so you won't get a color match. Why not just plug the holes? You can get white plugs from Home Depot. Lot cheaper, lot less work, and you keep her white.

This pic is from when I had 35's on OME medium before I installed the FOR kit. It shows the look well. No reason to mess with Durabak. White is already the best 80 color by far :flipoff2:

I agree that white looks very good on an 80, but you cant get a 40th in white.

I am wondering wether to go with the sooth or textured with the Durabak, I will be using black.

I've got some rust in the rear left rocker and need to address it, hense the durabak. I'm also concerned about slinging rocks now, so thought the durabak would be nice.

Hawkeye,

Durabak textured black does hold 'some' dirt, but it's not bad and cleans up well. All a matter of taste and preference in look. I had the same debate and chose textured. To each his own tho.

You can get a reasonable idea I'd think looking at the smooth black factory flares on Taco's compared to pics you see here of the textured.

I'd go textured for black. It is a much tougher product with the rubber granules. I'd only go smooth as a paint replacement for rust control in a light color.

Of course, I'm not pulling my flares so I can paint them back on, but that's me :flipoff2:

I have had no issues with rocks, but I do have sliders.

Could I get some more details from you about those plugs? Maybe a close up of them?

Great looking truck BTW!

This stuff clearance pic is the best I have The previous owner actually did this (I would have if it still had flares - the 80's lines were not designed for the flares so removal can be look enhancing depending on your preferences). These are like automotive trim plugs that pop in and hold panels, etc. Just white plastic in this case.

You could also use a metal filler like Fast Steel, which would cost you $5 for a couple of tubes if you even needed that much, and then file with say a dremel tool and paint and you'd have no plugs. Fast Steel is awesome stuff and very easy to work with. It's basically silly putty that cures into steel filler.

That's one thing about white - easy to find white plugs. Of course, if you had a darker color you could go with black plugs and that would look pretty cool. It's the metallic colors that would struggle and probably be best off filling/painting their purty rigs :D

Can some one post more photos without flares? I like the look on the one pic. Looks more like my BJ60. Thanks.

I just got back from Home Depot, and the Orange Apron Monkeys shook their heads and stared blankly when I described the plugs to them...do you know what the plugs are called, and what department they might be found in?

Thanks!!!!!

You will probably have better luck at Lowe's, they have a better selection of that kind of stuff in the nuts and bolts section.

Flareless and Herculined...White and Black...in my opinion the best look for the 80.
