...helping with a disc brake conversion?
I get done playing soldier boy Monday, and am probably going to start finishing it then.

I have the donor axle all taken apart. All I have to do is take mine apart and put the donor brake parts on after painting.

I will probably start taking mine apart after I get home Monday night or Tuesday morning. I will also be sand blasting and painting the donor parts on Tuesday.

Putting together everything on Wednesday?

If you are in the area and want to give a hand, let me know. I have never done this before, but am fairly sure I can figure it out. Taking it apart was just like the book said it would be. As always, it would be quicker if someone who has done it before was there, and the beer tastes better with someone to help drink it.

If I didn't have to work on Wed or go to school I would definitely help, after doing and I'm in brake class I can def do it and help ya...sorry man...good luck though.

French, would be glad to help if I was in the state.

What steering arms are you using?

I just finished doing a friend of mines 40 up here and we used the mini arms with some bushings in the holes and the stock TR ends. Do you have a mini axle or a LC axle?

You should have gotten the rear too and just swapped both complete under that rig. Better gears and a wider stance, along with the stronger frontend components.

I got both full axle housings with lockers already installed and planned on swapping them. Everyone said it was a LOT of fab work that I don't know how nor have the equipment to do. Also, I would lose the full floater in the rear. Also, the 62 gears are 4.10 and mine already has that.

Sorry to hijack ur thread Greg....i usually get one day during the week and its usually a friday or thursday...I goto school 4 nights a week until 930 and work everyday between wal-mart and the paint store so im uber busy. I wish i could be more involved but right now cant..hope everyone is well..hope to u guys sometime soon...

I'm really sorry I couldn't help you tonite. I hope you are making good progress. We may have some business to attend to in Conway tomorrow afternoon, but I'll try to call you if we get back soon enough. Let us know how you are doing!

Stuck right now. Got the troopie apart...mostly. The only thing I can't get is the inner axle separated from the birf on the short side. I'll keep at it. I know the "drop in down the tube" trick, it is just being stubborn.

The hardest is getting the axle clip into the birf on the new one. Who came up with that design! I have been alternating between trying to get the stort side apart, and the long side back together!

My sandblast guy never came through so no fresh new-looking parts :(
I'll be working on it most of the day if anyone wants to come help me drink some beers.

Ahh! We had a lot of fun ourselves with both of those.

To get the short side seperated it is a little harder than the long side. The tube will work, it just takes a lot more force because you do not have as much weight on the axle pulling the opposite way. Just use more downward force.

On the birf to axle re-connection use 2 hose clamps. Cut the screw part off of one and then use the other one to hold it around the axle making a mini compresion ring clamp. Like when you install pistons. Then using a vise to hold the birf, persuade it in.

A tip though, make sure ALL of the remaining snap ring is free from the groove on the axle. We palyed with one for 2 hours until we realized there was a tiny piece of metal left in the groove. After that was removed they slid together like butter.

Good luck,
Jeremy
