I had two oaks felled this weekend. One was dead and is likely seasoned, the other was on its way out, but will need to dry. I am going to be cutting it up over the next week or so. Come and get some free wood if you want it.

Will do. I'm in a bit of a pinch to get everything ready to hit Harlan. If I don't come by before, I'll take you up on it after. We bought a house that has a real fireplace and I'd love to burn some wood...
 
I just wish I had a real fireplace....would save me a bundle in the winter time..dirty and a PITA but totally worth it...Where exactly are you located? I might be headed up to the Winston Salem Area Friday if the stars all line up. We burn bonfires in my neighborhoold every weekend. Took me two years to get rid of the GUM and other oak that my freinds dropped. My FAKE fireplace just sucks more heat out then it puts out though.

Just looked at a map...maybe not as close as I thought.

hey - I have wood too - maybe 1-2 cords max -- def over a cord -- come and get if you like - I am in the Hickory area -- pm me if interested -- The place I was staying at had 2 fireplaces, but both can't burn wood.... go figure.... so come and get it.

I didn't know that. I almost went as so far last year to install a wood stove in our house and go crazy with a pump and tubing for a radiant heat for the upstairs. Both Deirdre's and my family back home heat their homes with wood and it is dirt cheap...just dirty and a bit time consuming. But I enjoy the day out picking up trees and later in life we got luck and got a hydraulic splitter :grinpimp:.

But since we won't live here forever I don't like dumping investments that won't pay off for me into the house. Some day though..some day.

So any oaks in the places they let you cut or is it all burned out areas and pine only....you do not burn pine back home...catch your house on fire. I assume it is the same with these pines.
 
Jason. They do clear cuts every year at different places of the post. You can go get any type of wood that has been cut down out there. We only burn pine when we go to the woods.

Can not beat 5 bucks a truck load though. As long as you have a military ID you can go and get it from post.
