I did. He stopped breathing on his own for about 4 minutes. The girls breathed for him. He came right back when the vet reversed the chemical. He thinks what happened was the dog sucked in too much gas at first...

I'm pretty sure our vet always does bloodwork prior to any knocking-out procedure to get the proper dosage of gas. At least we get charged for it.

Yes. My father was a veterinarian and as a child, I sat in on some surgeries. I remember watching him show me how to stop a dog's breathing with the dosage of the anesthesia then revive breathing by changing the dosage. It was always quick.

several mos. ago my boy got into some Porcupines. We got him to the vet quick, he had about 30-40 quills in his face and mouth.

They gave him a shot and in less than 5 minutes he was out. As far as I know he was breathing. Hour later they were done pulling the quills and he was up and moving sluggish.

Thought it was wild how he was out and back in hour & a half.

not that i know of...did your pup have surgery?

Ahhh, you had me worried.

Got any dog pics?

It happens to people also. There is always the risk of this occurring when put under anesthesia, a reason that doctors don't want to use it when it is not necessary.

so he's sporting the conehead look until healed huh?

I believe he'll just be sporting the athletic tape. My vet hasn't had luck keeping the cups/cones on their heads for long. I'll pick him up tomorrow morning.

By the way, he didn't do the surgery when he stopped breathing. That was last week. He brought him back out of it as soon as he could. Rocker just got the surgery done today. I wouldn't have taken him back up there, but the vet was very confident in what happened and in how he was going to proceed differently today.

my dog had to sport the cone for months after having surgery to her chest area.
it was pretty comical as she began to use like a weapon to pummel cats, objects, humans...

rocker? as in john?

Nah. Just knocked him out for fun....Yeah, had his big ole ears cropped.

i think dogs look good with cropped ears, but if you've ever seen it done it seems so cruel. The dogs are in pain when they wake up and it takes a while to heal. I use to work for a vet that refused to crop ears b/c it was cruel.

I think the AKC doesnt disqualify dogs that dont have their ears cropped

I looked at it at this point of view:

If I were a dog, would I want to have natural ears and no pain, or suffer a little when I was a puppy in order to look better and more badass when I was older? I decided to be vain and go after looks. We'll see how this one goes as to whether I crop dogs' ears in the future.

Seems more like you're saying this:

"If I had a dog, would I want him to have natural ears and no pain, or suffer a little when he was a puppy in order to look better and more badass to me when he was older? I decided to be vain and go after looks."

Yep, why else would I pay 200 bucks for it.

Dude is from Alabama.

Of course he will probably come back with some excuse as to a different meaning.

Other names most likely considered:

Adolph
Duke (David)
Klan
