Anybody been to Medano Creek?

My wife and I are heading down to the Great Sand Dunes here in Colorado in about a month. This trail on Medano Creek looks easy and fun, but I'd appreciate any info from people who have been there.

Will the creek be high due to snow melt?
Does it matter which direction we go?
One website says we don't need to air down, another says we do.

Any input is appreciated.

I've been there couple of times, but it's been a number of years. The only deep sand area is a flat stretch about a couple of hundred feet long, right off of the main paved area of the parking lot. I had no trouble without airing down in my stock FJ60 with tall skinny tires. The road as it continues over the pass to the east goes through some nice aspen groves, scenery is great all along the road.
