Anyone in the Virginia Beach area install an OME lately? I did the springs last week. I talked with a shop about the caster bushings (and showed one to him) and got the okay to bring in the control arms. When I got there today (with the control arms removed) I got the "whoa, can't do that here" thing. Nothing like re-installing control arms in an irate state of mind. I suppose practice does make perfect. Anyhow, I'm looking for a shop in the VB area familar with the OME bushings so I don't have to go through this again.

Thanks...

PS CDan, the Grand National rescue was successful.

Just find a machine shop with at least a 20 to press. You did get them from slee offroad, so you do have the bushing press tool that they send with the bushings.
Cheers,
Sean

The problem really isn't getting the bushings in and out. The beef was that w/o an alignment rack to check things, the steering could be screwy. (Which completely ignores the fact that it's screwy now, but that wasn't his problem.)

Use the template trick that has been talked about in here....use your old control arm with the bushing in it. Stick a piece of copper pipe through the center of the old bushing. push the bushing out of the other control arm. use the copper pipe to guide the holes for the new pushing being pressed in.

hey hobbes have you checked with any of these guys ?
Eastern off road -757-461-2600 located in norfolk
Truck Pro - 757-313-9600 located in chesapeake
HI-Dust truck 4x4 757 461-0186 located in virginia beach
all those shops have lifts and install full sus. lifts
i recomend Eastern there pricey but do honest work
hope you get it figured out

Pro Trucks are pricey and it's about a week until they can work on your truck, from my experience. Eastern is pricey, but honest, as mentioned. I've had good experiences with Hi-Dust and Pungo Offroad. You might want to try Bert's Alignment on VB Blvd. They specialize in front-end work on lifted trucks.

Thanks all. I found a 55 ton press at Oceana and did it myself. The steering is much better but still a tad too quick. It feels like I'd like to have almost doubled that correction. I'm still too light for the 850s up front (just a ARB). Might get better when I hang the sliders....

hobbes,

Did you use the auto hobby shop at NAS Oceana? I know that shop is equipped with hydraulic press and a lot of lifts. This is the place where I hang out and used their lift when I replaced the coil springs in my 4Runner. Once I get the OME, I'm going back their to use their lift.

Would you mind if I take a personal look at your Land Cruiser to see the difference in height and stance. Thanks.

Yep, I used the auto hobby shop. I was at Fort Story the day before (and got shut out). FWIW, the guy at Ft Story says he worked at Toyota for 20 years. Didn't help me, though.

You are welcome to check out my cruiser any time. I'm planning on going back this afternoon (if nothing comes up at work) to do the rear brake pads and trim the breather extensions I had previously put on.

I'm a bit nervous to approach your cruiser knowing that I might drool when I see those lockers and OMEs. GOSSSH (Napoleon Dynamite voice) I need more money for all sorts of mod. :D

Hate to rain on your parade, but i bet it won't get better, unless you add a winch, which might help a tad. I hope you are not in teh same boat as me.

More chit = level cruiser. just my 02. Now I need to add some weight in the ass.

the winch was a big help as far bringing the steering back to normal!
just did it last weekend and it is great ;p

concretejungle,

Is this a good ship we're on, or a bad ship?
