Hi,
I am cleaning up the door and want to remove the moisture barrier tape that holds the moisture barrier in place on the inside of the door cards. Anyone found a handy trip, or is it just as tedious as I think it is? The sound insulation trick with the dry ice worked great, now its on to the doors.

Originally it wasn't tape but a sticky bead of goop that remained tacky applied behind the plastic film. It was reusable. If you've got tape and you're not the original owner - perhaps the PO got out his tape dispenser and taped it up?

You are probably right. Years ago, in the aircraft industry, we used rolls of that stuff, but it was probably put there using a caulk gun. Its original, and needs to go.

You can use the same black tar stuff to help lift the leftover off the door. Stick it snap it off.

But do yourself a favor and get a can of 3M General Purpose Adhesive remover (Lowe’s/HD), not the Goo gone type stuff, more like acetone, that and some elbow grease. Best stuff ever, use it all the time.

I replaced my vapor barriers with some heavy mil plastic and stuck it back with double sided foam tape. Been back inside the doors numerous times since and the plastic lifts right off the tape and resticks every time.

Don’t use body caulk strips etc, pain in the a$$ just like the original stuff.

Can get the black sticky stuff from carquest when you need to put it back can't think of the name of it right now.

I bought a roll of 3M ribbon sealer - I cut off short lengths and rolled it thinner between my palms, just like Silly Putty.

Thanks guys! I'll work on getting the adhesive remover and going to town. Thinking about Cascade Audio Engineering sound dampening skins after I fix the window motors, figure out a stereo..........

The original black stuff dissolves in alcohol nicely, and I used butyl rubber to reseal it. Make sure you seal it in all the same places, or your door card may get wet and moldy.
