With all the hoopla right now about SUV's and their propensity to roll over, I've searched in vain for info regarding our LC's. Does anyone out there have any info on how safe our cars are in the event of a rollover accident?

Until the 2000 year model. Consumer Reports would not recommend the 100 due to safety issues. In testing, the 100 lifted 2 wheels from the ground during the avoidance manuever. The height of the wheels from the ground was not severe. Therefore Consumer Reports did not rate the 100 "unacceptable" as they did the Isuzu Trooper and Sujuki Samurai.

This was one motivating factor for Toyota to equip the 100 with ASC on the 2000 model. When Consumer Reports re-tested the 2000 model 100, they noted that the ASC controlled the handling and the truck no longer tipped. Because of this, they ever since have "recommended" the 100.

This brings me back to my stance as to which year is the best year for the 100. I've said it's 2000 and on. You gain ASC and ActiveTrac, though you lose a rear locker. You can add the locker(s) but you can't add the ASC and traction control. Should you not add lockers the ActiveTrac (on this truck) is amazingly effective for most 4-wheeling, even aggresive. In the snow, ice, and wet, the electronic systems are simply amazing and unequalled.
